A Chinook could land almost the same amount vertically*.
If Chinook could have parachute dropped aid off the ramp I would think that would be more accurate than a400m. But, I don't think chinook has the volume underslung or internally for aid drops.

Agreed. But clearly there's issues with "boots on beaches" that US Military have been trying to address.

Re: Airbus A400M Atlas (RAF)

taking less? Being more vulnerable? taking a day to get there? Airlander 10 carries 10t, the same as this A400M dropped. But also a significant part of that airdrop was ruined due to failed parachutes, poor landing spot or poor impact. Let's not pretend this is a timely delivery, it's months late. ...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Fair point. I'm not a fan of Boxer as a scout vehicle either, I was thinking more along the lines of the French Jaguar EBRC. I guess cross country performance will be the deciding factor. Lets just hope once it's in service it can put all of its development woes behind it. Bwaahahaha. Have you see ...

Too heavy to be a scout and reconasaince vehicle but too small internally to be considered an IFV. Considering that Australia and Germany are acquiring turreted Boxer as a Scout ...

Rifle is all weather, from coldest to hottest Def Stan, and every weather in-between. I'm curious as to your accuracy with a rifle when its pissing down with rain and you can't see the target. Same goes for any armored vehicle guns. I know you're a septic, but are you familiar with Sennybridge? Ran...

The point you & others are missing is that lasers, & other EO kit, are not all weather yet have scads of value. Plenty of military kit is not all weather from the humble squadies's rifle and on up. I'm not sure anyone has a clue what point you're trying to make. Rifle is all weather, from c...

For all the laser experts out there, please note that Dragonfire is installed next to a radar guided Phalanx in the CG movie. Also in the picture are very expensive, clear weather only, EO directors on both the Phalanx systems and the ship itself (for the 30 mm guns). Electro-optic sensors work mor...

Re: Jackal and Coyote MWMIK (Army)

An angled roof would be enough to deflect grenades dropped from drones away from the crew and reduce injuries. The Jackel is basically an open bucket inviting them to be dropped inside. There's a tarp on top, does the same job for grenades. On a jackal the whole crew are the eyes and ears of the pl...

Re: 105mm L118 Light gun

In the very early days following the retreats from Kyiv, Sumy and Chernihiv they were pulling tanks from open storage with little to no refurbishment. 2 years in they tend to go to a tank repair facility for a modicum of upgrades but in the first 6 months that wasn't the case. Plenty of T-80 and 72...
