Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Bit of a bodge there. AJAX was never meant to enter service with LE TACIS, Morpheus. "And to add insult to injury the main contractor for Morpheus is … General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), a sister organisation, or at very least a cousin, of the very company struggling to deliver the Ajax v...

That appears to be consistent with BOXER (but not AJAX).

Re: AS-90 Self-Propelled Gun (Army)
I wonder if reserve Light Gun units will be quickly introduced to any truck-based auto-loaded solution. Can't be any more complicated than MLRS surely?

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Whilst hugely off topic, the CR3 development funding provided in the competitive phase is somewhat a red herring. The Challenger 2 Life Extension Programme was a limited scope, obsolescence programme. It was not CR3. It was hard to call it an upgrade as the additional functionality was almost nil. T...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
It looks like none of the variants met the mod requirements though but the issues of vibration noise etc was suppressed for years while they blamed the issues on the turret and government supplied equipment. To be honest even without the turret and ammunition feed mechanism if the MOD were constant...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
But over half the variants didn't require a turret so why were they not delivered first, inline with the original delivery dates, that would give more time to sort out the turret. Because MOD stopped paying? I understand their point being these are all support variants, why would we accept them whe...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Was Scout SV ever actually demonstrated prior to the contract being signed in 2014? I don't recall ever seeing a demonstration vehicle or the mod signing off that it met any requirements, maybe it was demonstrated on a power point demonstration that cost £500m. There was definitely an ARES vehicle ...

Scout SV demonstration contract was £500m.
What was £859m spent on?

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Here’s a crazy idea - design a new chassis from scratch for both CH3 and Ajax. Maybe Ajax gets a SWB version. Both with Hydragas. Build them on one production line at the old Armstrong works currently used by Pearson. Commonality, economies of scale, option to grow the tank fleet in the future Disa...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Since vibration induced injuries can also come through the floor perhaps they put the padding on the floor as well ,I have included a few international articles on vibration people here can work out if all of the transmission points of vibration to feet and hands have been protected Foot vibrations...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
If AJAX was OK all along what was the point of all the hullabaloo then? Politics, partly. AJAX is held to standards that far exceed any of the legacy platforms in the British Army (and MOD is increasingly held to the same standards as civilian employers), and also the army insists on mandating PPE ...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
If it’s a problem or not I don’t know. But it sounds like there has been mitigation to ensure injury to soldiers can be claimed as within H&S limits which is fair enough. But the question remains if vibration and resonance are remaining within the hull then what does that do to thru life effect...

Re: Future cruise/anti-ship missiles
Because Brimstone 2 or 3A/B is still an £80,000+ missile...with a very small warhead, reliant on semi-active laser guidance or a recognisable target via its MMW seeker. It's not really a comparable weapon to SDB1 for example. SDB1 price was around £20,000 at the time Brimstone was £80,000...with a ...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
Isn't the problem with 105mm that if you put in all the precision guidance with GPS/IR etc, there's not much room left for the bang. And it will still be out ranged by 155mm. And any SPG versions wouldn't be significantly cheaper and still too heavy for helo's. 105mm at the ranges it's used at only...

That is exactly the point if the decision for the long range weapon has been made now the vector became a secondary question for political reasons. Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
As we know the British ROWANEX 105mm HE round has the same explosive power as a standard 155mm M107 round so if we wanted we could make some ROWANEX 155mm rounds with the power of a 205mm round Does anyone think the HE content is something that needs improving? Does increased HR performance balance...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
So 120mm won’t be capable of providing the close support previously provided by old as90 it would after all be closer to the front than the old artillery? AS90 never provided close support. It was always a long range artillery piece, but in 30 years the capability of artillery has changed. are pref...
