Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Requirement as dictated by the Treasury though! I’m not convinced. While ATGW fit is going to up the cost, the Army seems dead-set against ATGW on vehicles. Yeah the old "Tanks are for killing tanks" argument, just like the "Astutes are for killing ships, we don't need missiles"...

Cued in what way? General co-ordinates or with a laser?
Cued via laser on a tethered drone.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Out of interest, how many CVRT and Warrior vehicles would you have per Challenger 2 in an armoured brigade? If there's only going to be 150 Challenger 3's, does the force look particularly balanced with 589 CVRT replacements and zero Warriors? There will be four regiments equipped with Ajax, plus s...

Re: UK Politics - General News & Discussion

Whatever your thoughts about Carol Cadwalladr, she is prepared to go to court to defend her journalism. The following thread should be of concern to us all: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1502958168145551362.html She gets a lot of hate but if you go through and read her reporting she was actual...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Can we not knock together ground launched Brimstone for the Ukrainians. I can't imagine anything in the world that would make a bigger difference for them right now with armoured columns bearing down on Kyiv. I'm not sure we should be putting the crown jewels of British missile technology in a posi...

Can we not knock together ground launched Brimstone for the Ukrainians. I can't imagine anything in the world that would make a bigger difference for them right now with armoured columns bearing down on Kyiv. They were test fired off the ground before they were ever hooked up to a wing pylon. In the...

Re: Ground Based Air Defence

Ideally they would develop a containerised CAMM launcher that be fired remotely without the control and radar vehicles, and queued off an AWACS or nearby F-35. The containers could be used on ships as well so the value would be immense.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

This might or might not be a silly question but can a wheeled platform like Boxer function effectively in a place like northern Norway? Considering that in Europe the only two relevant regions that could be invaded by Russia are the Baltics and Scandanavia, it would be a bit mental if the entirety o...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

That's a great article. For SEAD it would be interesting if they could go back to the Apache concept but with multiple Spear 3 style submunitions carried internally in the missile. A large, stealthy long-range cruise missile with an exchangeable payload depending on whether it's for anti-ship, land ...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I’m not sure you could compare a Stryker brigade to a strike brigade. A Stryker brigade is all wheeled and is still a medium weight vehicle. We’re as a strike brigade is a mix of tracks and wheels with vehicle weights more comparable to heavy armoured brigades without there firepower. Without the f...

Surely firing torpedos does exactly the same thing though and puts your right next to the enemies ASW assets?

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

Considering that the Astute class are designated for the anti-shipping role, wouldn't it be a force multiplier to equip them with quality sub-launched anti-ship missiles?
