Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Personally I'm thinking the next government if labour will definitely throw GCAP under the buss and try and hash a french plane , personally if I was BAE, I would turn around to the next government and say,we have a perfectly good plane and team up in gcap and if you want to throw it all under the ...

Quick question for you guys. There's been a few new pictures being released, like this one in the guardian https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/01429cb6df41d8f809519253e0325a11d58b1767/95_102_3005_1804/master/3005.jpg?width=1200&height=1200&quality=85&auto=format&fit=crop&s=e5c1fe3a718...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Would India be allowed the F35?
Wouldn't the TF-X be a better solution for them?
I presume GCAP would also have "export" versions, which are a little less state of the heart. I can't imagine India is particularly secure if you need to keep your radar absorbing features safe.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
It seems the US is keen to maintain some way to collaborate on 6th gen fighters. "US, UK Will Have ‘Avenue’ to Share Best Practices for Sixth-Gen Fighter Development" I found this little bit interesting “We’re aware the U.K. is working with Sweden and Italy on [Tempest],” Metrolis said. “...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I think Dassault CEO Trappier recently said that FCAS has already missed 2040, and with Rafale cleaning up in the export market I suspect the foot has gone off the gas I wouldn't put too much into what is said about timeframes. Throw enough money at something, and suddenly it is possible. “Even if ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Sweden technically are already onboard and a joint member. At the moment it looks like they are in for educational purposes, possibly bringing in some form of agile production tech that they have used for their own plane and a demonstrator with the yanks. By the sounds of things now, the next stage ...

I imagine that this is the telegraph getting mixed up. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/07/18/bae-work-first-new-supersonic-fighter-jet-almost-40-years/ The defence giant will develop a sixth-generation warplane to replace the Eurofighter Typhoon. The flying prototype will be a venture betw...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
180watt solar panel for recharging the stick on GPS devices.
Honestly tho, perhaps it some sort of comms array, although it seems a bit big.
My last thoughts are it could just be a badly rendered image.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
At best now Russia will be fielding low numbers of 5th gen jets by the 2030 and the way things are going for them things wont improve into the 2040's the French if needed could go for a small buy of 50 F-35C for there carriers making the job of a land based 5 gen jet easier France will never buy an...

Bit of an opinion article here https://www.19fortyfive.com/2022/05/tempest-fighter-will-it-fly/ Also, thanks for the replies. So it looks like end of the Oct 2024/early 2025 for the next phase to be done. I've been reading RR is back in talks with Turkey again other their 5th Gen engine procurement....

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Quick question (possibly longer answers!)
When are we expecting some form of movement on Tempest, such as design sign off or prototype release.
Basically, do we know of the timeline?

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
It shouldn't at all. The nuclear capable Tornado were always going to be replaced well before FCAS (which won't be capable of B-61/12 delivery). It might actually make an entry to service easier as one of the FCAS partners will have actually operated an LO platform by 2040... The reason I believe t...
