Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

I know the Indonesian variant has the plug, I was really talking about the MNP concept. Maybe I misunderstood where the plug is.

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Babcock also states that in order to put those 16 cells in the B position, they had to add a hull plug… I believe 2.3m or 3m, I’m not sure. I do not think this is correct. The 2m plug can clearly be seen on the MNP model. It lengthens the hangar. Not the bow. There may well be a plug amidship to le...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

No it isn't because the fitment of Mk41 isn't primarily for CAMM its to allow for FCASW. And B position isn't the obvious solution as you need to put the 40mm somewhere. Babcock clearly don’t agree as they put 16x Mk41 in the B position on the MNP concept. Which you get if you get close to if quad ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think the solution is somewhere half way, £1.5B could be found… 1. Turn T31 into full GP frigates by adding a (relatively cheap) bow sonar, 8xNSM and 32xMK-41. If half of these are filled with CAMM/ER/MR and half with FC/ASW or Tomahawk, and a containerized VDS is added as needed, they would becom...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

That’s why they call it coalitions… but the Ike CVBG can last at least another 4-6 months on station, so this won’t be an issue until the summer… plenty of time to get a joint UK/US CVBG ready to deploy… POW or QE with 20-30 UK+US F-35, 1 T45, 1 T23, 2 AB and 1 US AOR, plus maybe a Dutch or some oth...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Since the rumor that ExLS maybe going on the T26's could that mean that when the T45's go in to get CAMM fitted from 2026, that they get ExLS launchers instead of the mushroom launchers ? or maybe a combo of 6 x ExLS ( quad packed CAMM giving 24 missiles ). & 8 x mk41 that could give more optio...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Apparently, these are Iranian missiles, made for land attack, that the Houthis are lobbing at ships half-blindly and hoping for the best (or worst). Obviously, as long as they’re deemed a threat to shipping, they have to be shot down… the Houthis don’t have D-21s or anything close to them.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The description is too detailed to be a mistake. The questions re: 1) Where do the (presumably) 12 ExLS launchers go? Do they replace the 24 mushrooms amidships or the 24 in front on the MK-41s? If the former, does anything go in front of the MK-41s or will it be FFBNW? The site also clearly states ...

Re: SSN-AUKUS Future Astute Replacement (2030s) (RN) [News Only]

By the time the RAN receives its 5th AUKUS boat the two used Virginias will have spent their 20 years of reactor life, so there’s a good chance the Aussies end up with at least 7 AUKUS boats. As to the RN, even though the aspirations is 12 boats, I think it’s more likely the final number will be in ...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

I disagree… the RN knew it had to go minimalistic to get the program approved, and they did… the AH 140 design is ready from the outset to take MK41, so no, I don’t think any extra money will be spent due to only announcing MK41 now as opposed to when the competition happened… everyone knew there wo...

MK41 on T31. Assuming that per 32 (8x4, 8 pack costing ~£12m) costs ~£50m, that is £250m, or 1/8 of inital programme cost and probably 1/10 of eventual programme cost. How does this compare to TA/PS with torpedo launch method (Other than heli's, can include UAV). According to Shephard Media, the co...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

The extra integration costs will depend on how much the design is ready upfront. Don’t forget the Polish version will have them, so I’d guess the R&D involved would be minimal or zero. And the RN has stated multiple times the ships are MK41-ready… I really think you and Donald-san are overestima...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

As said above you need to clear what is being ordered this contract is more like the 250 million contact for T-31 i.e Babcocks got a 1.25 billion pound contract to build 5 T-31 = 250 million each £2Bn is the program cost. We can see many independent contracts directly by MOD to, at least, MBDA and ...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

In what regards Aster Block 2, it's just a PowerPoint, AFAIK. It'll take at least 10 years to become operational, if it ever does, so by the time it would come online, it'd be close to T$% OSD, so it won't be worth the time and treasure. If anything, it would make its way into T83, although I believ...

It has been stated by Babcocks that the RN will let them know how many CAMM will be fitted as this is part of the GFE and not under the fixed contract with this said and the current global tensions I see type 31 coming on line with 24 CAMM and then NSM being fitted before the first deployment I tot...

Do these £4.2B include GFE or not? Does anyone know? The T31's supposed £1.25B turned into £2B once GFE was included... I wouldn't be surprised if the final cost per hull of the Batch 2 T26s went over £1B. Firstly, only an effing idiot divides contract value by units to determine unit cost. If you ...

We’ll, when the T31 contract was signed it was for £1.25B and eventually it came out those were only the build costs and you’d have to tack on another £750 M on top for GFE… so… no, you’re wrong in what concerns the RN… Yes and No. It was clearly stated that it is a £2Bn program. I understand Babco...
