Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Indeed, my nipper has bombarded me with pics and videos of QNLZ from PWLS. If I knew how to get them on here I would. 8-) Please share if you can, my lad is on the QE and despite repeated requests he sends me diddly squat :( I’ve told him that when he’s on deployment no photos = no parcels from hom...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

From what I've read the first T26 and T31 hulls will indeed be in the water in 2025 but will be nowhere near ready for delivery, trails or white ensign. This is expected to be 2027. For T31 that was in the news recently as it had changed from 2025. This is wrong and it appears lots of people on thi...

Forecast of RN destroyer and frigate numbers: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49866439723_a691a4e4de_b.jpg Nice plot! A few comments. 1: You said this is "in service". But, for me, escorts "flying white ensign" is more important. For example, ship in trial phase will be more...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

You need to take into account the Power Upgrade Programme for the T45s. This will reduce Type 45 availability in the terms of your footnote. Details are available somewhere! The numbers shown are those in service, which as we all know is never the same as ships available for operations. S...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The reason why the T26 is now primarily an ASW platform is that we need eight T26s and we need at least 8 ASW Frigates What is your calculation, with the known paying-off schedule for the T23 ASW and the 3+2 T26s ... when will we be at the lowest? And further, as the most potent ASW platform we hav...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

News this morning (with usual media sensationalised suggestions) that QE will anchor off in Stokes Bay before starting FOST (next week?). Hopefully nothing sinister in it.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Does anyone have information on any trials or tests of Phalanx vs. modern missiles? Has it actually been proven effective against the latest generation of anti-ship missiles? It astounds me that we still rely on this CIWS to protect our RN ships and crews. I was on D96 back in the eighties when it w...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Does anyone know when the names for the Type 31s are likely to be announced? Hopefully the back end of this year Weapons would be nice: Battleaxe, Arrow, Broadsword, Dagger, Longbow or battles: Armada, Jutland, Falklands, Taranto, Trafalgar or statesmen/women: Churchill, Thatcher, Wellington, Pitt,...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

With the forecast dates for Type 23 decommissioning I think the plan was for the numbers to go down to as low as 13 How does that relate to the schedules of the other two types? Basically the T23s will start to go out of service before T26 or T31 are in service to keep the total number at 19, this ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

But will anyone here be surprised if the Royal Navy struggles to main the escort fleet at nineteen let aloe expand it. The Convod-19 pandemic maybe a one off, but the financial repercussions are going to be massive, with GDP dropping and little or no room to borrow anymore money even if it is cheap...
