Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Interesting one for historians Personally I think if there were no Brexit we’d be looking at a maybe 20% share in FCAS, maybe even alignment of SSNs with France ie adopting LEU. I don’t think 5 eyes would last long term given the EUs defence ambitions. EU has nothing to do with 5-eyes .... so its f...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I hope BAE and Leonardo in particular take the opportunity to integrate as much as possible on this. The combined strengths would make a formidable competitor. In my perfect world there one day be a comprehensive Anglo Italy JV company covering all air platforms.- Tempest, Helicopters, M346 - 50/50...

This may be something that needs to be nailed down with Japan. I'm sure Italy and BAE between them will sell anything to anyone with a free Ferrari or three thrown in.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Way too sensible for our MOD. it’s what everyone else is doing - Germany Spain now maybe Italy. The RAF may fall below a minimum viable strength while production of Temoest is still ramping up. Around 100 T2/ T3 so around 70 available at any one time and some of them will need to last to 2050+, I ca...

The USA will be supplying the missile compartments in the same way they produce them for the Dreadnoughts and highly likely to be supplying the command and control systems for it as well. PWR3 is indeed based heavily on US technology, likely would only be exportable with US consent. But you still n...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Ok, I look forward to Airbus launching its own fighter project then without any help from Dassault, they have so many transferable skills. And one of those A320 production lines is in China - any conflict of interest there? Yes people move around. I knew a fellow who moved from building Ford Falcons...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Personally don’t think civil and military aircraft sit naturally in the same corporation, it’s like the Ferrari F1 team owning an HGV manufacturer. If the French go it alone then Airbus will be out of fast jet business just as BAE and SAAB are long out of civilian air. Not sure I agree with that. F...

The rumor mill in Australia is that the agreement is quite detailed on this point, and the Australian government will be making a substantial cash and human capital contribution to support the increase of Virginia class production. In which case why do the Aussies need SSNR? Because they want a Sub...

When it includes all build and support costs, which makes it closer to £400mn. The first three B2 River class were £350mn including support costs (and a good dose of cost to develop new design techniques and keep a workforce busy for a period of time). It is perfectly possible to get a capable plat...

A billion in capex terms is chump change for a government. 40 million a year over a 25 year life. HMT were budgeting 40 billion for HS2 over the next 2 Years. The Airtanker PFI is I believe 13 billion.

It will be really interesting if the Spanish buy F35.
I'll put money on it, FCAS will eventually go ahead as basically french only, from about 2045, which they'll subsequently flog to India

Here's a way out thought maybe the RN is saying ships are laid up due to crew when the real reason is the Ships them self we all know the T-23's are being nursed to the end now plus we all know the T-45's up until now are better off in port in case they brake down Now as for the Echo class they are...
