Re: Boeing Chinook (RAF)
2 billion GBP for 14 chinooks Sheesh Well at least they won’t have a door to blow out mid flight. And this is the day after a Boeing whistleblower “suicided”… Seems about right. We paid $CAN 2.3B (or roughly GBP$1.4B) for 15 airframes, 10+ years ago. If you factor in 10 years of "defence"...

I would think the revelation that a senior Australian politician was recruited to spy for a foreign intelligence agency to gather information on AUKUS would give pause to senior officials in London and Washington looking to share each nation's most critical defence technology. https://www.bbc.com/ne...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
That's not correct. The CSC program specified many systems. Some examples are CMS330, MK41, CEC, CH148 support, MK54 torpedoes, Integrated Bridge and Navigation system from OSI, and Aegis, to name a few. For those capabilities where a specific system was not specified, there was a rigorous requireme...

Here's a video showing how the RCN's Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) are launched. This may be of interest as I suspect HMS Glasgow's launch will be very similar.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Thought I would post the latest drawing of the Canadian Surface Combatant. Some items are mislabeled, such as the location of the CAMM launchers, which are actually just aft of the funnel (in six ExLS launchers). There are a few other mistakes as well, but nevertheless, it is the first comprehensive...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
So Canada is buying 100* SM2 Block IIIC missiles for $500 million. Unless that is only a partial order for first ships, that only leaves just over 6 missiles per each of 15 ships! Assuming that UK can buy them from US at same price as Canada, that would cost $250m to buy 50*SM2 Block IIIC missiles ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I could be wrong, but I thought the SM-6 was seen as the replacement for the SM-2, being complimented by the latest version of ESSM. Most allied navies though are continuing to use the SM-2. The SM-2 MR restarted production after ~4 years in 2017 after international orders for 280 IIIA & Bs, in...

Latest rendering of the CSC shown here: https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-ca/ The main mast is significantly changed from previous drawings - much taller, which is good for sensor coverage. I would have posted the drawings directly, but I got a message that the main board image quota had been reached.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I would definitely like to know the reasoning behind this decision. Range? I've seen the range for the Mk45 Mod 4 (127/62) listed as approximately 36 Km, while the range of the OTO 127/64 LW with VULCANO ammunition is listed at up to 100 Km, depending on type. Ballistic Extended Range - Unguided mu...

Phil R[/quote] suggests that there are technical reasons the gun was chosen over the MK45. Slightly tongue in cheek... 5"/54 caliber Mark 45 mount = 22 tons 127 mm/64 LW mount = 32 tons (45% better) Phil R Appreciate the humour. There have definitely been some pretty ridiculous decisions made o...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Normally a bid in Canada is evaluated as follows: 60% Technical, 20% Cost, and 20% Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) (which is basically how much of the bid value will be spent in Canada). I've seen variations, but Technical has never been below 50%. So, if that same equation was followed,...

No, that's an old image. The RCN published the "official" specs a few months ago, and there are 32 Mk 41 VLS cells, all strike length.

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
It's correct. Canada is heavily involved in ESSM (Block 1 and 2). Sea Ceptor is going to be their CIWS. Sea Ceptor sits between RIM-116 and ESSM in terms of performance. No mention of RIM-116 anymore. Tomahawk is the new one, but the RCN has released that on the graphic. No mention of ASROC. Is thi...

Also noticed the CSC is slightly longer than the other variants (151.4 m vs. 149.9). Thought to be at the stern in order to accommodate a Canadian designed VDS, but that has not been positively confirmed.

Except ExLs doesn't fit ESSM so that will always be filled with CAMM. (in answer to calculus) Of course. Could have as many as 128 ESSM in the 32 MK41 cells, and 24 CAMM in the 6 ExLS cells. Huh? You said it could be an all ESSM fit. Never mind ... I just re-read what I posted originally, and I can...

Here's the other view .. So only half the SeaCepter load out of the Royal Navy City Class, but with the addition of an extra 8-cell Mk41 VLS module, for a total of 32 Mk41 cells.
