Murmurs from a friend at Lossie & from a work colleague whose "friend" works at Boeing that the other 2 will be ordered making it 5

Re: Multi-Role Ocean Surveillance Ships

It’s a good move. For a 100% available capability 2 vessels are essential. Would like one or both to have an ice breaking capability also, given the role will stretch from the Artic to the Azores. Would the RSS David Attenborough design work there the. If not a full Ice breaker was it not ice stren...

This shows why it ought to have been a 3 ship class. Also shows why any future replacements for Ocean, Albion/Bulwark, Argus etc should be an F35b capable LHD .

Such a waste.

Is there no way to convert these to other uses? Caribbean patrol ship for one, free up a Bay from doing it.

Mine warfare mothership for another. 2 fabulous hulls sat there doing SFA.

Just watching a clip on the Warthog we had 110 of them in Afgan I don;t know how many came back but why did we let it go so quickly. Why didn't we order another batch to equip a light Mech Battalion battle group Agreed. Surely they'd have been suitable chassis for Exactor, Starstreak, a heavy morta...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Given where things are going maybe the best mix we could go for would be 2 x Enforcer 18000 LHD's 200 x 35 Meters 4 x Enforcer 13000 LPD's 5 x Absalon = Type 32 I can't see a better choice for T32 than the Absalon. The commonality with the T31 & flexibility (of the vehicle/UAV deck) make it a n...

Steering away from missiles for a second how accurate ar range is the chain gun on the likes of the Apache? Given the huge increase in drones is it not a future prerequisite to have as many vehicles as possible able to detect & engage UAVs. Something like dedicated guided 50cal or bigger on as m...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

ECR Typhoons should be a must for the UK. Do we have any retired 2 seaters we can convert? One of the key things for the ECR variant is a wing with different plumbing to allow the tanks to be moved so that the EW payload has decent placement. Can't do that with conversions. And the tanks are needed...

Given the disaster the Ukrainian mud appears to have been for Russian wheeled vehicles how do we think a Boxer would handle it ? Well as the vehicle photo'd is at best a 6x6 Lorry chassis and Boxer is an advanced cross country 8x8 we are talking chalk and cheese here. True but I've also seen BTRs a...

Re: Royal Navy SSK?

Surely a fleet of small SSK makes sense for covering the GIUK gap, Baltic exit point & providing cover for the SSBN fleet in UK waters.

This frees up the limited number of Astutes to range further afield. Getting shot of the Upholders seems to have been an error.
