Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Thats the point several ships sold enable later ships to be built for their own navy and extending the production by 4-6 years so you don’t need to dream up pointless programs to fill gaps That assumes that the MN gets the cash from the sale (whether directly, or being recycled through the French T...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Or simply sell the early type 26 to countries currently running hand me down type 22/23 and keep iterating new builds at the end. You seem to think the RN would keep any money generated from ship sales. Think again, it all goes to the Treasury. I could have posted this half a dozen times in this th...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

You will be surprised to know that I do believe the same applies to the RAF it should only have 1 fastjet type. Not in the least surprised, the RAF is constitutionally hostile to aircraft carriers and maritime air. Left to them, the carriers would be scrapped tomorrow. And in relation to your other...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Or develop a new AAW radar and upper works to fit on type 26 hull form remove the mission bay and add VLS's to give 80 and set a price of 900 million and move straight from type 26 No-8 to type 47 No-1 Basically iterating the design then, Samson radar atop a new mast, a 57mm gun up front instead of...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

I've just looked down the back of my sofa and found 56p. Just circa £10 billion to go and we could acquire a fleet of e.g ten with the idea of having six in frontline service. In all seriousness while we plainly cannot do anything anytime soon by the mid 2030s it might be worth proper consideration...

Some confusion around the German Typhoon procurement. Gareth Jennings is a good follow on twitter if you're there. luWES is the requirement for Tornado ECR replacement. The German defence spending increase seems to be a moving feast at present...inflation is eating into the announced 100bn EUR, the...

So a force of what 4ssbn, 8 ssn, 2 carriers 10 frigates and 6 mcm mother ships a couple of stores ships and tankers? Zero amphibious capabilities so no need for the Royal Marines? I don’t see any need against the 5 asks repulse put fwd which were very naval in orientation I would have been more int...

If you were willing to accept your type 32 was a lot like HMS protector and were prepared to give up future commando and its associated shipping you could probably do that. The T32 for me is probably an extended version of the original Venator 80 - cheap, flexible and effectively the white transit ...

My view is we would end up with 6 Type 83 8 x type 26 6 x type 32 10 x New 105 x 17 meter MHPC the French will end up with 2 x Horizon 8 x FREMM 5 x FDI 12 x Europe corvette or the like to replace there Floreal & D'Estienne d'Orves classes We can also look at Italy which will have 2 x Horizon 1...

https://twitter.com/lucasfoxnews/status/1599131898760298496?s=61&t=uvg9nZKNv_yN5_q7rSvW2g This just highlights how little prepared the west/NATO is for war when ammunition supplies are so low. I guess, there will be the need for a rethink on procurement capabilities, procurement pipelines and s...
