So they cost the MOD about £270m per ship. Considering the contract was signed pre Covid and pre inflation shock that’s not bad going.
And in line with what we have seen on Type 26

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

The way forward here is simple 1) fund the 3rd division and make fit for Nato duty 2) sort out the 1st division to become a Light mech division fit for Nato and other duties 3) fill the 6th Division with 16AA , Rangers , 11th SFA and 77th brigades fit for global reaction duties 4) keep both RB2's Eo...

If that is a real threat add in a Loitor weapons or Brimstone unit to extend the bubble and stop enemy artillery setting up What type of enemy artillery system would be in range of a rear logs hub ? If this static firebase unit is somewhere it makes sense to include 120mm mortars, there will be few...

depends what it is used for if it is part of a logistics hub defence system with say 2 x 40mm pallets systems 1 x SAAB X1 & 2 x NEMO 120mm container systems it could be OK Sounds vulnerable to any artillery the enemy might have. I can't seem to post links but just read an article stating the UK...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

I would bin off any ideas of reinforcement of the far east in anyway. The very occasional exercise that'd be about it. We've far bigger issues than putting together paper forces and wasting time and effort when we can't sort out uk based issues. If we had massive budgets fine, but we don't. We need...

Re: Multi-Role Support Ships (MRSS)

Interestingly, BMT Carmen information is renewed. Also interesting that the Caiman 60,90 and 100 cannot operate from 150nm offshore unless it’s a one way trip. At that range the only option is the Caiman 150. What need for 150nm? 30nm if far more realistic. I agree even 50nm or 80Km's is about the ...

Re: Multi-Role Support Ships (MRSS)

Are the Caimen range figures given against the max speed? i.e. if they are, what is the range if they run at half their top speed - which is still nearly double that of LCU10. Caimen 60 = 225nm / 34kn Caimen 90 = 225nm / 38kn Caimen 150 = 400nm / 24kn LCU10 = 600nm / 10kn So I remember the old Caim...

We keep come around to the same basic needs which in my view means we need something like a 200 by 32 meter Osumi class with a modded island We need to stop thinking of the flattop as just a flight deck but both the this and the vehicle deck as multi mission decks I would say that a ship like this c...

My call is we will end up with two commando flattops and 3 LSD's with room for 4 helicopters based on the same hull form with the same power set up docks so on with a crew of 100 for the LSD's & 140 for the flattops

They tried to develop a CTA40 that fired at twice the rate for air targets. Couldn't get it to work. PS sticking naval gun turrets on big trucks or pallets seems a pretty daft way to go. Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

UK has “European Patrol Frigate”, 3 AAW combat variant in Denmark, 5 GP (patrol) variant for UK, and 3 multi-purpose (not GP) variant for Poland :D Anyway, the heavily armed variant of EPC has too much overlap with T31 and thus out of the scope. Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

I suspect it is also pretty cheap compared to the Bofors. I've all around the clock with the rivers, from "arm them to the teeth", to my current "a few modest upgrades is enough". So, for me, upgrade the Bushmaster to 40mm & replace the crew-served 50 cals with stabilised mo...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

The DS30B & DS30M use different ammunition, I believe, so already two ammunition logistics streams. True. DS30B uses 30x170mm, and Bushmaster 30x173mm. Former can be used by Bushmasters by changing the barrel, bolt and aft feed plate. ref: http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNBR_30-75_GCM.php ref:...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

For me I would go down the Bofors road as the 3P round ticks all the boxes the bushmaster would need dual feeds for both airburst and standard rounds but still a good option As said the B2s need a good UAV for OTH search and track plus command eyes on for boarding ops I still think that 2 x naval Ra...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

The B2's will need to upgrade their weapons fit to counter the new drone and 1st gen ASM's threat that now comes from gray zone actors this dose not mean going for frigate type weapon systems but could open up simple systems like 40mm Mk4 , LMM and Hero 120 Loitor weapons but with all this said the ...
