Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

The navy could be in a good place if it built 4 x updated Absalon's as type 32 and 4 x 107 meter B3 Rivers. Upgrade the B2's to have a 40mm and give the B3's 2 x 40mm fit the B3's with a 25 ton crane and clear the deck between the funnel and the hangar to make a 15 x 13 working deck. with a force of...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

BAE / CL talked about Leander being able to come in 99 , 107 & 117 meters but lets not kid our self that a 107 dumbed down Leander with the mods talked about would cost that much less than a type 31 Also the River class design has already been built in 3 places and if built at CL would make it 4...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

If we take a UAV like camcopter witch can carry 2 x LMM witch are 13kg's each we should be able to fit 2 x Hero 120 witch are 14kg's as long the comm's link with the hero can be kept it could allow the UAV to fly say 60km from the ship and then launch the Hero out to 100km's form the ship

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

For me the 40 Mk4 with 3P rounds should be the base line as this would give a good base line defence against fast boats , drones , and cheap missiles as said if the B2's have 2 x Ribs and 2 x ORC fitted with 12.7 mm plus 2 x UAV's this would give good search track and stop capability now if we add 2...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

1: Measuring from the River B2 dimensions, and facing the fact that Wildcat cannot fold its tail, the hangar shall be as long as 15 m, and hence the flight deck shall be as small as 18 m or less, if no hull extention is done . 2: For blue water, a ship with length less than 110 m is reported to be ...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

Re: Border Force Cutters.

The simple fact is once they are in the boats and in UK waters they need to be brought to the Uk dose this mean they have to stay no but the first and most important thing is safety Now like or not the UK left the EU and at the same time the treaty meaning the French had to take them back this littl...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

For me it shows the need for eyes on for the ships command using a UAV and if the contact boat opened fire there is a case for putting a LMM into it I am a big fan of the LMM used as either a 5-7 rocket pod on Wildcat or as an addition to the DS-30M Mk II secondary gun, to give RN extra options vs ...

Re: Border Force Cutters.

It really is not that hard all you need to do is allow applications to be made at the first UK embassy in Europe they come to they will be told to report to that embassy within 14 days for a interview they will then be given a reference number that they can follow on line. once we have this in place...

Ouch ! Rattled are we ? Perhaps you should take more care with what you say in your posts. It is nothing to do with “what I can come up with” ! What was in the rest of the post became irrelevant once your apparent disregard for human life was expressed. Rattled no mad maybe disregard for human life...

Re: Border Force Cutters.

Even if the Cutters main weapon was a water-cannon, they should be armed with small arms, just like UK airport Police. Who you planning on shooting? Any one of these 30,000 young men from the heartland of ISIS who turns out to be an angry extremist with a gun or a knife. GCHQ estimated 5% are proba...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

the simple fact is we don't have enough Wildcats. Is it not time for the Army to hand over theirs? They could be replaced as part of the Puma replacement programme allowing all RFA’s and Escorts access to multiple Wildcats if required. This could be funded at least in part by the £500m saved due to...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

the simple fact is we don't have enough Wildcats . UAV's like camcopter are well proven and would offer 70+% of the helicopter it also comes down to cost when thinking about a OPV adding the extra meters and a full hangar plus helicopter is a lot of money. the OPV's need organic air assets to allow ...

right now with the 2 Bays and Points we could move a Battalion battle group some 1400 troops plus kit and support this in turn could be supported by a RM force operating from the LPD now a zero notice deployment of such a force to Poland would be a good thing

Thanks. I was more referring to HMS Trent's deployment on West Africa. She visited Ghana this month, and made a good relation with the local officials, first in decades... Stopped the long long UK absence there. The same can be done at, say, Kenya, Maldives, Seishells, Madagascar, and South Afica. ...

Re: Border Force Cutters.

So on news night last night they show HMG figures showing imargation was down 40% over all and even though small boat crossings are up this was put down to the lack of air travel also EU imagration was down by 60% so a better way would be to fly them in fast track apps and fly them back out as needed
