Re: The future form of the Army

As said for me right now I would go for 400 Viking's and 520 Bushmaster split like so Viking = 200 APC , 60 C&C , 30 SP Mortar , 30 Brimstone OW , 40 Assault Pioneer & 40 Ambulance Bushmaster = 200 APC , 100 C&C , 50 SP Mortar , 50 Brimstone OW , 60 Assault pioneer , 60 Ambulance this al...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Right now we have 6 Infantry Battalions in the 3rd division 4 x Warrior and 2 x Mastiff if we were talking of replacing the Warrior units with wheeled boxer and then replacing the Mastiff units with tracked boxer giving us 3 heavy BCT's of 1 x armoured regt = 44 CH-3 1 x Cavalry regt = 60 Ajax 2 x I...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

But we will never have loads of small ships as they will be cut and cut and cut Plus also the SSS need to be dedicated to resupply of the CSG and with all current thinking in the MOD has the MRSS at 200 x 30 size ships and if this remains the case then making them a 200 x 30 flat top like the JMSDF ...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

But before we jump into the rabbit hole of tracked Boxer surely we need to make sure we have enough wheeled ones for 4 Battalions so something like 180 APC's 100 C&C 40 SP Mortar 40 Brimstone over watch 20 Assault Pioneer 25 Ambulance 40 CRV Then we need to ask why are we buying tracked Boxer wh...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/uk-looking-for-long-range-inter-theatre-lift-uav/ Perhaps we should be building our Future Solid Supply Ships with flat-tops… So when we talked about making the MRSS a flat top you were against it now you want to make the SSS a flat top. I still like the idea of maki...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

for me the 10 jet per unit would work as so it would be common for 2 units to deploy aboard QE and for one to deploy aboard POW along side a USMC unit this would give both ships 20 jets and the option of being surged to 30 jets The other way is to have 3 units of 16 jets allowing each ship to have 1...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

For me the way ahead would be 5 units of 10 jets plus the OCU and TES allowing for 3 carrier based units and 2 land based it would also allow 30 jets to surge to 1 carrier

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Whilst I have reduced my caffeine intake, I agree it would be a good idea for the UK to strengthen the partnership with RBSL, and at the very least try to get its UK sites the primary manufacturing locations for the Tracked Boxer if any orders are forthcoming from countries other then the UK. Yes w...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

I think it is worth noting that most of the Russian navy is sub 3000 ton ships so as said a near hypersonic Aster 30 would achieve a mission kill

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

So the UK has now ordered 620 Boxer's for about 3 Billion it could order another 600+ so it is in the interest of RBSL to do the leg work on this and once they have a working hull the Army can have a look at it .The UK has options for 1500 Boxers so if RBSL do a good job we could end up with 750 whe...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

For me right now we need to forget tracked Boxer and make sure our forthcoming wheeled Boxer Battalions have the right amount of APC's , C&C's , SP Mortars , Brimstone OW , Assault Pioneer & Ambulance We should be looking to fit the RWS's on the APC's with 30mm cannons & 40mm GMG both wi...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

If the anti ship capability of Sea Ceptor is any good wouldn't that be better than SPEAR 3, Sea Venom or similar for any small targets? I am just thinking of 48 Sea Ceptor cells for anti air and smallish crafts (2 uses, one missile) and save the room for a large canister launched missile for the bi...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

If we are talking about replacing Ajax ( if it fails ) then we need to move fast as we are now using Warrior in the armoured Cavalry role. For me this means we can't chase another rabbit hole i.e tracked Boxer and there for it would mean a new comp between KF-41 , CV-90 and Redback Also for me with...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Sticking a turreted mortar on BOXER sounds like an incredibly expensive and complicated option for a very limited capability (range, effect). 81 or 120 open-roof and manually fed still gets you rate of fire. If you can load a CR2 on the move, surely you could load a mortar too. weren't they already...

With RN escorts at this time operating with 200+ crew ( to keep at sea time up ) once the new ships come on line Type 31 with 110 to 120 crew and type 26 with 150 Broadly true, but some comments: - T23/T45's "200+ crew" includes "flight crew", and its core crew is somewhere arou...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

If you need to build additional Warships, then it is without doubt that they will need to be crewed and maintained as well. If we have Warships in the current Fleet that cannot be crewed or maintained, that is a scandalous situation and shows (once again) that the 2010 SDR did reduce Naval personne...

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 (Future) Main Battle Tank (British Army)

Great video on youtube of the John Cockerill turret upgrade of the Leopard 1 using there 3105 105mm turret they claim the integration took 1 day and all they needed to do was make a new adaptor ring for the bearing and a new power cable and gives the Leopard 1 a two man turret with a 12 round auto l...
