Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

For me any tire 2 ship should be half the cost of a tire 1 ship given that both type 45 and type 26 are 1 billion per ship and type 31 is 400 million there is some room left to spend a bit more What I would like to see in place of of any type 32 is a 2.5 billion pound program to build 3 more type 3...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

If you were looking to fit 8 tomahawk to a type 31 why would they need to be in a VL system. They could be canister launched like nsm. There aren't any current box launched tomahawks, they were only ever fitted to 17 ships which included 5 nuclear cruisers and 4 Iowa Class battleship and have been ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Question for the experts - what's the practical range of a ship launched anti ship missile? I mean at 200 km the flight time is what, 20 minutes, something like that? In that time hasn't the ship moved beyond the range of the sensors on the missile? So isn't >200km range on an anti ship missile is ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

With an increasing multi-polar world with increasingly dominant regional powers, I think it would be naive to think that UK and the US will always have friends that are willing and able to provide operating bases in all the regions where we will need to “fight”. By that matrix it will be naive to t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The ability to fight in the modern age means you have to have the Kit needed up front i.e heavy Land forces ,Fighter jets , Frigates Destroyers Carriers and SSN's Yes you do, but not necessarily at the scale that people think of when they use the past as a benchmark. Speed and logistics are absolut...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

… But you question alludes to a bigger strategic point we are ignoring it’s much better to defend territory than have to retake it. The old 3 to 1 ratio required to take land is probably no longer valid, thanks to proliferating tech it is much bigger now maybe 5/6 to 1. I doubt the political will i...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

We can take this one step further if Type 31 were to get the Mk-41 like the 1st SL has nodded at then we could have a pair of T31's with 16 x NSM , 16 to 32 x Tomahawk Blk-V and 3 to 4 helicopters this would give the ship an attack range of 1000 miles 360 degree around the ship or to put it another...
