Re: 105mm L118 Light gun

4 regt RA are part of the 1st Rifles Light Mechanised battle group so I can only guess that this is part of an ex to replace a damaged gun in the field as the Pinzgauer is used to pull the gun and was it not in one of the photos

Re: Hawker Hunter

In lots of ways we over look the DH Venom FB-1 which we could have rushed to Korea in Mid 1951 yes it came into RAF service in Mid 52 but it was good enough in Mid 51. The Venom was 20 MPH slower than the Mig 15 in top speed however it could out turn out accelerate and out gun both the Mig-15 and F-...

Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)

The way forward is a scheme where we offer people from overseas UK citizenship if they complete 26 years in the RFA You seem to be convinced that the problem is recruitment rather than funds to pay salaries. I’m not sure anymore that that is the case. What I really think is it is a bit of both and ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So just been looking at the UVision Hero Multi Launcher system which can take the Hero 400 which has a 120+ km range and 2 hour loiter time. And I thinking this could give both the River B2's & Type 31's a cheap OTH strike capability

Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)

No crew. This is the main point of Waves being laid up. If it is a waste, RFA must have built only 3 Tides, so that 2 Waved and 3 Tides were to be rotated as 4 active and 1 in long-maintenance. If, only if there were some more crews coming, sending a Wave to East of Suez will be just fine, so as to...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Why do you think that with the right training the infantry can't change from a Javelin equipped ATGW company to a Brimstone over watch company what is it that would / could stop them Because they don't have the command structures and capability for target acquisition, command and battles space de-c...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Sorry, but when in service Swingfire was class as the Army's long range ATGW, only beaten by the TOW on its Lynx AH-7. However you are correct regarding the FV438, Infantry Battalions had their Milan Section(s) which varied greatly in size over time. As I also mentioned the Spartan MCT was also int...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I still think with the Boxers RWS's being fitted with Javelin the battalion's need to replace the ATGW company with a Brimstone Over watch company these should have 9 vehicles with 18 ready missiles giving each Battalion 162 ready missiles. this could go someway to replacing the light gun in the Ar...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

the projects talked about by the RN and HMG are SSS MRSS LSS Type 32 So if we were to try and max these out what could we have 6 x Type 32 based on a Absalon to allow the RN to use them as GP frigate or a close in LSS 4 x MRSS based on a 200 x 32 flat top LPD capable of carrying 12 helicopters each ...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

But with in the BCT's there will a Ajax equipped Cavalry and a Armoured regt with CH-3 doing those jobs LJ wrote That is assuming Ajax actually enters service. On the defensive yes the Armoured Regiments Squadrons would provide fire support for the Infantry Battalions in most caseswith the Infantry...

What will happen as has happened in all other wars where this type action has taken place is solders will fight on to the death and take more Russians with them rather than give up and be murdered with no hope this will cost the Russian just as it cost the Japanese and the Germans if your enemy thin...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

With Javelin being fitted to the RWS's on Boxer the biggest step for the Boxer battalions would be getting a Brimstone Over Watch company in place of its ATGW company giving them organic fire power out to 25+ km's this could see the Boxer battalions with fire power like so 50 to 2000 meter = Infantr...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I still think the Boxer Battalions need something like a Cavalry Squadron/Company of say 12 boxers fitted with a turret equipped with a medium Auto cannon and ATGW. This unit could provide each Battalion with both a Recce and direct fire support capabilities. But with in the BCT's there will a Ajax...

12 x sea cadet
10 x missile = 12 sea spear
10 x gun boat = 1 x 12.7mm stabilized GAU-19 plus 4 x LMM

Plus other modules like MCM , ASW , mine laying

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The B1's would more than likely be OK with 4 x 12.7mm HMG's and a hand full of Hero-120's . Any 30mm's need to go to the RFA's What I would like to see the RN end up with is 12.7 mm , 40mm , 57mm & 127mm like so Type 83 = 1 x 57mm , 4 x 40mm , 4 x 12.7mm Type 26 = 1 x 127mm , 4 x 40mm , 4 x 12.7...
