Re: Future Solid Support Ship

Depends on what security they've given their lenders. You could see Sampson and Goliath being packed off to China on day one of the administration. As above I don't think it's going to come to this, they'll either do a rights issue, bring in a new investor or sell that Islandmagee gas storage proje...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

i think it's important to note that it is being advertised as a Strategic Defence Review and not a Strategic Defence and Security Review Is there really a meaningful difference. I rather get the impression that Tories use the SDSR terminology but Labour call it SDR. But I'm no defence historian! ;)...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

babcock selling off appledore just to get it back would be quite the joke. They didn't sell it off. They closed it down. I've no idea what's in the FSS contract. But the prime is Navantia and I suspect they'd argue that UK sub-contractors going under is none of their doing, and the UK Government ca...

Why is bringing Zumwalt radar fit irrelevant as background as it was the planned basis for replacement for the Burkes which date back to the 1980s So what? It is just irrelevant you seem to think by bulking out your posts with at best tangential info it improves your argument it doesn't. More total...

depends what it is used for if it is part of a logistics hub defence system with say 2 x 40mm pallets systems 1 x SAAB X1 & 2 x NEMO 120mm container systems it could be OK Sounds vulnerable to any artillery the enemy might have. I can't seem to post links but just read an article stating the UK...

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 (Future) Main Battle Tank (British Army)

Problem is that for this venture with Leonardo, RM will push development of its own platform, KF51 Panther, as there are also potential to sold it to Hungary and (eventually) Ukraine too. So there is very little chance, basically almost none, for use of new CR3 turret there even if offered. Why wou...

At this stage, what’s the alternative?

Handling the entire contract to Cadiz doesn’t seem likely.
We already have Navantia are the prime not H&W.

The US Navy aren't going to fit APAR Blk II on the mast top of the Burkes let alone replace SPY 6 with it which is the implication of what you were suggesting by using APAR Blk II on T83 as the main radar. I never ever hinted the USN will fit APAR Blk II, just the opposite in fact as posted USN wil...

No they are design only, the ships are\have been built all over, recent builds are tankers for Denmark in China and fisjing vessels for Norway in Spain.

My view in summary. Defence Review pointless. Reversing the Indo Pacific tilt gains nothing as nothing of note was committed and anything that was is very much to our benefit AUKUS and Tempest or longstanding Brunei, Kipion. 2.5% now to sort out Manpower and Infrastructure. Re: MBDA Storm Shadow Missile (RAF)

Given the successful performance of Storm Shadow/Scalp in Ukraine, why are they not put back into production? If 'the West' wants Ukraine to be able to push Russian assets further back from the Ukraine border into Russia, long range strike assets are needed. Ukraine has US long range strike assets ...

Spanish. Sigh. It's worse than that.... It's a Spanish update of the Marconi Martello radar....developed and built in the UK, then shamefuly neglected by BAE... Yes we flogged them a couple of UK built ones, then they built a few with UK parts, some were sold overseas on a joint basis with Indra bu...

How are they doing it? Are the drones forming the shape autonomously? I don't believe they are. More than a massive leap to drones chasing after enemy combatants autonomously.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Well 40m Damen vessels like Patrick Blackett aren't going in a T26 mission bay or even on a MRSS. yeah, it isn't meant to, it is a minimally / completely unmanned ship. I wasn't implying it was more suggesting that the T26 mission bay may be emptier than maybe suggested or that the smaller bays on ...
