Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
I simply don't buy into the view of UK manufacturing draws expenditure back into UK coffers, (it might do), but those coffers are separate from the MOD budget, so your defence budget buys you less and less and the military continue to contract in an ever decreasing death spiral.... If the MoD budge...

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]
Can't help but believe that the eventual T83 design will be influenced more by the outcome of direct energy weapons (eg lasers) vs missiles than any other factor. For one thing, if DE wins, the eventual ship can be much smaller. Got the names picked out: Lion, Tiger, Princess Royal, Hood, Nelson, Ro...

Who doesn't love the energetic launched of a Sea Viper Missile :D Those hatches looked very clean compared to after.... I wonder if someone is going to have to clean that, poor sailor. @Gunbuster on another forum said that sailors painted liquid hand soap over surfaces before the launch so that aft...

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]
Definitely remember being told this wasn’t possible… You were told by several, including me & NAB (even though we are poles apart in credibility :D ), that the current T26 design cannot be "stretched". The same sources also told you that re-utilizing the same "hull form", is...

It's a rather obvious photoshop. The resulting image doesn't make a lot of naval architectural sense in places.

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Arguing for arguments sake, the pair of you. Geo was on his mission to savagely cut defense spending in pursuit of his financially illiterate idea that a balanced budget should be achieved at all costs. He refused to pay for T26GP and commissioned an ex-Babcock's guy to write a shipbuilding "st...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Lot of daft arguing here. The idea that some of the T31 budget was somehow preallocated for mk41's and/or NSM is ridiculous. From the get go, we know that the RN asked that the T31 design be such a hull sonar could be fitted at a later date. And provision for a larger number of CAMM launchers. I hav...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Incorrect. The budget was fixed by Geo Osborne and his merry troupe of Whitehall warriors in the Treasury. Lot's of good and useful stuff did not fit that budget. Hence the type 31's only being useful for fighting pirates and flying its flag while hosting embassy parties. George Osbourne hasn't bee...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The RAF's attempts to re-write history is always most amusing. If they gave as much attention to prospective enemies that they give to the other two services, they would be a much more effective fighting force. Every RAF idea/initiative/plan for the other services is basically to reduce their spendi...

Fills me with complete confidence that an army colonel is heading this up.
Nearly as bad as having a land based RAF in charge of the ship's major weapon system
Only in the UK, sigh.

Maybe also speeding up T83. because, if the MoD wants 12, +12 SSNR which are both roughly at the same time period it is going to be hell on earth to fund, with a total of +£50bn. If you think it's hard right now wait until that happens. 8 for both is much more realistic and would still be a substan...

Not hard to identify the antennae and dishes on the DE&S/Babcock CGI to see they're a pretty skimpy lot. Same exercise on the T26 images reveals a much richer set. Then look at the published Constellation equipment. Comms & ESM can be very expensive. Easy place to save money with little vis...
