Re: The war in Ukraine
Far from an ideal solution I know but the quickest and easiest way to add a significant punch to the Ukrainian AF while politically smoothing the route to more advanced types. That was pretty much my rationale for the Tornados. A small set could be made available quickly and then (like UK agreeing ...

Re: The war in Ukraine
I think we have some Tornados that could be made airworthy reasonably easily. Not many and not ideal but seems the most likely to me

Be fair, they couldn't install at ground levels. Too much risk of it engaging defenestrated generals, politicians and advisers

Re: The war in Ukraine
RU missiles seem to be very in accurate, so it is doubtful they could provide much utility at attacking military targets. So with a few possible exceptions any AD would be better near cities

Re: The war in Ukraine
https://twitter.com/WarMonitor3/status/1578701684166959104?cxt=HHwWgICpsai01ugrAAAA Wonder how true this is? Ballsy move by the Ukrainians regardless. There another rail route through occupied territory - but is only 5km from Ukrainian forces. That and the road route are vulnerable. Regrettably it ...

Re: The war in Ukraine
As the Ukrainians push the Russian south towards Kherson, they are trapped except for a number of lash up ferries, on the wrong side of a major river. The Ukranian do seem to be aware of the risk of overextending themselves as well, moving support and logistics units up behind there advancing force...

Better than that was where they said: Ukranian soldiers would eat Russian children British were encouraging Ukraine to invade Moscow Half of all Ukranian army are NATO troops Or my new favourite: this special military operation is like worming.a cat: a special operation for the vet, war for the worm

I don't think there is any doubt he is guilty, but I do get Jim's point that delaying the trial might have been. In their wider interest

I think (from memory) the definition of "tanks" above is broader than Oryx uses as well. IIRC Oryx has separate categories for SPGs etc that the above seems to lack

Re: The war in Ukraine
The German government has been pledging a lot but delivering little, late and in poor condition...so don't go holding your breath did anyone hold their breath? It now turns out that Germany won’t send the M270 MLRs Scholz promised to Ukraine until much later than thought. The Germans say the weapon...

Re: The war in Ukraine
UK couldn't send MLRS before US agreed it (ITAR regs) But they did send NLAWs early, and Starstreak (much faster than Stingers). They were the first to send anti-ship missiles (still unspecified type). They also sent Brimstone and have reportedly had special forces in country training Ukranian army....

Re: The war in Ukraine
no one sends stuff ahead of the USA. I don't think that is absolutely true. The UK sent weapons in the pre-invasion period in Dec 21 and Jan 22 before the yanks I believe (the latter didn't deliver until 22nd Jan). But I can't be absolutely true And Germany has dragged their heels on a lot of kit t...

Anyone else pondered the similarities between the Falklands & the Ukraine war? Fading regional power claims historical ownership of a nearby area against the wishes of local population That invader expects the other side to give in without a fight The invader's (conscript) soldiers are unprepare...

Re: The war in Ukraine
According to the news media, now we have the Foreign Secretary saying the UK will send Fast Jets to Ukraine! Someone must have gotten their wires crossed as what could we send and it takes a significant amount of time not just to train Pilots how to fly and they fight with a new aircraft but youals...

Re: The war in Ukraine
That has been the trend for decades. Another thing that has been a trend for about the last century is people claiming the death of the tank. Once we'd got a couple of decades and iterations in, we started to get "this time it's different" being added. There are a couple of good videos on...

Re: The war in Ukraine
Tanks increasingly look like targets and deathtraps. Even with the limited weapons at Ukraine's disposal. What would they be like with NATO aircraft and stand-off weapons? And 10x as many infantry operated anti-tank missiles? Russian troops may have got to near the front in Ukraine using vehicles, b...
