I cannot see why we would need to obtain replacements from Norway, unless we now plan to upgrade more. My take on it (and obviously I could be wrong), was Norway wanted to donate, but their units aren't in good enough working order. So a quick deal with us and Robert is your mother's brother :thumb...

No one is suggesting that the MoD don't do their due diligence, but 'IF' tracked Boxer is up to the task surely it would be a logical purchase*...

This looks a bit awkward to lug around... https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2022/06/17/rheinmetall-introduces-squad-support-weapon/ The latest incarnation can engage targets out to 900 meters with a range of different ammunition types. Details on the weapon are still thin and development of the SS...

Note the 2 types of ammo... When you've seen videos of the rifle being easy to control that's the training ammo, when it's heavy recoiling, that the actual combat ammo.

Well, with the Septics now getting 15 (or more?), the price should come down a bit... So there is still a (very) slim chance of adding those 2 back.

Think you've got confused a little there, 6.5 CM is similar in size to 7.62x51, no way that's fitting an M4.

The LMT is definitely a better thought out design than the L119A2, more user friendly, more armourer friendly.
If the L85's (and L119's) get replaced by another 5.56 (and I suspect they will), the LMT would be a good choice.

Noteably both France and Germany chose the HK 4XX family to outfit their militaries. Mark my words, those two are quietly driving forward wholesale harmonization of their equipment and capabilities across the board. Seems to have really started around 2016... The 416 was the Germans second choice...
