Re: Boeing E-7 Wedgetail (RAF)

It’s a series of fuselage frames with lug attachments (brkts if you like) at the top to attach the radar and fairing mounts, the new crown panel nests round that. https://breakingdefense.com/2022/12/uk-industry-officials-raise-eyebrows-over-royal-air-force-f-35-e-7-and-a400m-programs/ Elsewhere, an...

Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

IMO the likelihood of the T32 programme being scrapped just went through the roof. A mix of additional T26 and T31 looks like the most sensible way to proceed if HMG are really serious about growing escort numbers. Unlikely to see more T26. If we're lucky we might get a batch 2 of uparmed T31 if ba...

Seems like there is request for 75 M270 and 10 MLRS recovering vehicles, but funding for only 61 & 8 respectively. Still significant increase over current numbers https://twitter.com/Gabriel64869839/status/1597578927782133761 What are the current numbers? Are these actually for the UK or for do...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal

A mixture of things coming out here, not sure how much is correct and how much is remainers (in Government, Parliament, civil servants, media) pushing their own agenda. The UK isn't going to accept the 4 freedoms, nor is the EU goin to budge on them, just as they didn't for May's Chequers proposals ...

Would say better late than never, but isn't it too late, now? Won't they already have had (and still have for some time until after they've appealed and sold up etc) the opportunity to take/copy/document the tech/info/data/IP etc....?

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

Good, if the majority of the work does indeed take place in the UK...we've seen these sorts of agreements before and then for various reasons much of the work gets moved elsewhere. The contracts should be water tight to ensure the UK workshare, with strict penalties for deviations

Contract placed for the next batch of five. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/order-placed-for-five-more-type-26-frigates-on-the-clyde/ Excellent news and congratulations on breaking the story. I wonder how much lower BAE could go than £840m, if given an additional order. Nice thought, but I'm more c...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

I do love how selective quoting of a selective economic model projection have ingrained a media narrative of an illusory black hole to ensure a political agenda is put in place. Bingo. There was likely no black hole, or one much much smaller. With enhanced growth to GDP (as per some of the more sen...

Brexit is failing. Like communism, it will always be that it wasn’t pure enough, it wasn’t done properly, etc, etc.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The biggest threat from Russia is its sub surface force, which is on par with the west,, and the counter to which are P8s, SSNs and yes super quiet frigates designed specifically to hunt submarines. In the future I’m sure XLUUVs etc will have a role. A noisy frigate, not designed for ASW, using mod...
