Edinburgh has to be a given to keep the scots happy.
Sheffield / Newcastle / Manchester / Liverpool all worth a shout but very northern centric so not all. Maybe Gloucester / Southampton or Exeter may slip in there to address the balance.
I can't see there being a Plymouth with the recent news about basing T26 at Devonport / retaining the amphib fleet and not forgetting HMS Tamar.

I like the idea of one from Manchester, then Newcastle and finally Exeter.
That should cover all parts of the UK.

The full stop (to the sorry saga) has to be put somewhere... and leave no doubt ;)
Agreed, naming the 8th ship HMS London at this stage makes it a tiny bit harder to subsequently order less then eight ships and given that doing it this way doesn't cost the RN anything I applaud the political savvy.

While this is completely off topic it's also complete bollocks.

I'm British. You can be English if you want to be. But I'm British and no-one is telling me I'm not.

When I asked if there were any takers for Edinburgh, Swansea & Londonderry for the last three, The theme behind the names used so far seemed likely be extrapolated for Scotland, Wales and NI. Namely the "First" and "Second" cities of each country in the United Kingdom. But time will tell!

Do you understand the political problem of Derry / Londonderry? Its quite important.

London was a clever, pre-emptive strike for that, too.

Is it customary to name a ship that hasn't been ordered yet? Or did I miss the 2nd batch order?

Probably not, but the admiralty may be trying to protect the order a bit, makes it more difficult for politicians to cancel a ship named after London than an unnamed ship.

Deleted the off-topic "nationality" posts. Discuss that in another thread by all means, but this thread is for Type 26 news and related discussion.

Standard practice these days. As long as the Canadian MOD have their paper work in order nothing will change.

Don't know the detail of the Canadian Judicial Review process but am fairly familiar with them in the UK - and I suspect they are similar enough in principal.

Firstly there is a world of difference between requesting a judicial review and getting one.

And the primary consideration will be about the lawfulness of the process. Judges will not be asked to determine whether Ship A was a better match to the criteria than Ship B - they are judges after all. They will consider whether the decision taken by the body under review was one which it was legally permitted to take in the way that it did.

Another Type 26 named, with Type 42 and Town Class Cruiser heritage.

Leaves no. 5 and 7 to be named...

Still hoping for HMS Watford... If anyone's seen Brasseye.

So seven of the eight T26 have already been named. That happened quite quickly! My bets on the final name is Edinburgh but it seems the south west and north west england has been left out. Manchester / Liverpool / Bristol / Exeter ?
It’s a shame that we aren’t getting the full 13 for a better geographical spread.
Perhaps the balance can be addressed with Town names for T31e.

HMS Liverpool for me.

Liverpool's role in the Battle of the Atlantic was huge, even though the cruiser with the same name didn't have a service life long enough to gain an Atlantic battle honor.
