Re: Turkish Armed Forces
If NATO could truly rely on Turkey, then this would be great news for further reinforcing NATO's southern Flank in both Black Sea and Med.
If Turkey continues to sit on the fence, to try and act as a middleman, but always acting purely in Turkey's perceived own interests, then this could yet be a future issue.

New aircraft carrier (based on current TCG Anadolu), 4 more Frigates, OPV, MCMV, FAC....

Just been announced on BBC News that Turkey is to buy 40 new F16s and get upgrades to their existing fleet. Oh and the Turkish Parliament has voted to accept Sweden's application to join NATO.

Re: Turkish Armed Forces
How do midsized countries like Turkey just casually spend $23 Billion on upgrading their F16 fleet along with all the other programs they have? Isn't Turkey supposed to be going thorugh an economic crisis with double digit inflation and negative foreign reserves. How do they find the money?

Re: Turkish Armed Forces
They have some 243 F16 older variants, with apparently 157*F16C and 86*F16D.
So the 40 new aircraft might be rougly just one fifth of the total F16 covered by this contract.

Re: Turkish Armed Forces
How much money did they put into F-35 and did they get any or all of that back

Probably underwritten by Qatar and other oil/gas rich Middle Eastern countries that share their affinity towards radical islamism?Icedragon9 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2024, 21:13How do midsized countries like Turkey just casually spend $23 Billion on upgrading their F16 fleet along with all the other programs they have? Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Re: Turkish Armed Forces
No more F35. F16's are just a stop-gap. And although there is high inflation, there is no an economic crisis in Turkey. Export incomes are higher than ever. I advise not to underestimate Turkey. This is the unique 5th gen aircraft in Europe for now.

Congratulations Turkey for being the 3rd country in the world after the USA, and China, to fly a 5th Generation Stealth Platform!!!! Fantastic achievement!!!!
( The Su-57 does not count(its a joke re:stealth ) and South Koreas has said their platform is 4.75 Gen and not a stealth platform )
