Will they be allowed to use the bar? If so, will some Michelob or Bud/Coors light be served!Halidon wrote:Hope the QE has plenty of crayons on hand.

I don't think the RN wants to find the QE lying on her side in front of a Waffle House with the hazard lights blinking, so quite possible the bar will be a no-go.PhillyJ wrote:Will they be allowed to use the bar? A long while ago we had some US Army Rangers move into to an nearby USAF station for a few day, as part of an on going exercise. They were given a HAS to live in and had rations delivered via pallet near by to simulate logistical drops. It wasn't too long however until la sign appeared on the main doors to the HAS saying "Do not feed the Animals".

The last time a USMC Harrier squadron deployed onto the Illustrious for a week (back in 2007) off the east coast of the US the bar was definitely not off limits....at least for the officers....it was one of the things they loved, almost as much as the ski jump. Interestingly it wasn't just the alcohol, they mentioned that having a space where it was easy to discuss the days operations in a non-formal manner was very useful and something they lacked on LHD's.Halidon wrote:I don't think the RN wants to find the QE lying on her side in front of a Waffle House with the hazard lights blinking, so quite possible the bar will be a no-go.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
So in a article on the Save the RN site for the F-35 they say that the USMC are planning to eventually have one squadron permanently designated to deploy on UK carriers
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
So at least the QE Class will always have some F-35B's aboard then, because we'd be struggling on our own between crap politicians and the potential attitude of the RAF.Tempest414 wrote:So in a article on the Save the RN site for the F-35 they say that the USMC are planning to eventually have one squadron permanently designated to deploy on UK carriers

If this thing with Iran heats up, could she maybe see some combat earlier than planned?
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

If WW3 kicked off tomorrow QE could undoubtedly take part after a week of prep in some role. Just like Illustrious was pushed out of the door really fast in 82 to take over from Hermes and Invincible.abc123 wrote:If this thing with Iran heats up, could she maybe see some combat earlier than planned?
But realistically the UK isn't going to get involved in a way that needs a UK carrier, if at all. And trying to rush the delivery of a first in class capability like QE would be a really dumb move.
If it kicked off with the Iranians you could guarantee lots of Saudi land bases open as there is no love lost there...no need for a UK carrier at all.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Aren't we still supporting the Nuclear deal? IF the US starts a war it isn't going to have many friends joining, except for its chums in the middle east, and the US will have its hands full like in GW1, trying to stop the Israelis getting involved after Iran launches missiles against them either from Iran, possibly from Iraq and also from its proxies in the Lebanon. Regardless of our relationship with the US we have no business getting involved with a conflict with Iran, no matter how much we dislike its regime.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
The most we could expect from a 'rush job' QE ready for action cruise would be to simply relieve another US Carrier from its duties, so it could go and join the US fleet in the Gulf.
HMS QE is in no state to enter a combat zone.
All irrelevant anyway, this Iran thing will fade away over the next few days, weeks. It's Israel that will start a war with Iran, not the US.

Didn’t expect to be reading this headline (no, not the one about Ulrika Jonsson ), but apparently true and confirmed by the navy... Removed from post for the “misuse” of a RN Ford Galaxy, reading the article it does seem an over reaction by top brass by who knows there may be more to the story. No doubt he’s absolutely kicking himself, been in command for less than a year and had Westlant19 to look forward to in a few months..

And apparently Steve Moorhouse, current CO of POW becomes the first man to captain both sister ships..

Perhaps he thought that there were Arrestor wires to stop him.

Personally I’d be a bit disappointed that this...
Had been replaced by a Ford Galaxy.... Talk about being short changed

As per the number plate, he had been "robbed" of the pleasure of a "Stealth" Jaguar.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

^ A Ford Galaxy yesterday
It seems Nick Cooke-Priest was driving his official car, a Ford Galaxy, not on official business on weekends....

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
It would not have happened in days gone by. An official car would have been allocated an official driver and the car, driver and very likely the Ship's Captain would have remained with the ship.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
As CO he has to be squeaky clean there has to be more to this story that we have not yet heard.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
An innocent mistake, bollocks. Everyone knows the rules regarding MT. He'll have been chancing it for a while, mind you everyone has nipped somewhere in an mt car that's not 'an official journey ' before. Bit harsh to get moved on and probably into some dead end post.
Bet there's a few officers with official cars going over the fmt paperwork before the end of the month

Personally I think it's top brass scared of the pc brigade and it's just perthetic ,what a total joke ,is this the state of the rn top brass today ,we are doomed , think other countries must laugh at us
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
No way an innocent mistake.
Spent three years with a personally allocated MT Car. Absolutely zero personal use allowed and they are all tracked by GPS. CSs combed the paperwork for inaccuracies.
I don't know the guy, and have no bone in the fight, but it smacks to me of he thought he was above the rules. As I've seen many others do....
