Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

Just a line from Penny Mourdant's keynote speech to the Seapower Conference today.

What is the point of running on old vessels and delaying new ones and running up massive costs in the process?
The comments that allude to FSS have received a bit of attention.
But is this referring to the Type 26 delivery schedule? It seems the best fit. Will it make any difference?

All very well but so long as that tosser, Philip Hammond, is running the treasury, nothing will change when it comes to defence spending, no matter who is defence secretary.

I for one found this to be hard hitting especially the part about SDSR's falling shortRichardIC wrote:Just a line from Penny Mourdant's keynote speech to the Seapower Conference today.

Bang on but her seat is in the hands of the navy if she fails to improve the RN she could lose her seat
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
No. Penny Mourdant is Portsmouth North MP. The naval base is in Portsmouth South.
Penny Mordant's Portsmouth North constituency contains the northern half of Portsea Island and extended suburbs on mainland Hampshire. Portsmouth North: https://mapit.mysociety.org/area/65566.html
Portsmouth South has a Labour MP (Stephen Morgan) and contains the city centre, both cathedrals, the "university" (cough), the naval base, and Fratton Park. Portsmouth South: https://mapit.mysociety.org/area/66014.html

It’s starting to make even more sense for us to move away from the mushrooms and go with ExLS on both the T26 and T31

From beyond the paywall...
"With the selection of the ExLS launcher in Canada, Jane's understands that the MBDA Common Anti-air Modular Missile (CAMM) is now also specified as the designated close-in defence missile system.
The selection of CAMM would mark a major success for MBDA. The missile is part of a multi-layer defense system, and Canada is also a member of the Evolved SeaSparrow Missile group and investing in development of Block II."

None. He'd privatise the assets of the armed forces and force them to lease them back on highly profitable terms to the hedge funds that would end up owning them.SKB wrote:I wonder how many T26's PM Farage would order?!

Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.

This might not seem important but securing the future of this facility in the UK is massively significant.

It would be interesting to know exactly what has been ordered.
Might give an idea as to the size of the 'second batch' of T26's.

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
The order is for five motors. Also it would be nice if the Aussies and Canadians ordered some for their ships as well.
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
Good to hear about Rugby factory. Do the Aussies and Canadians have the ability to manufacture these components locally?bobp wrote:The order is for five motors. Also it would be nice if the Aussies and Canadians ordered some for their ships as well.

If its for ships 4-8 it will be for 10 motors (2 per ship).bobp wrote:The order is for five motors
Both Australia and Canada have the capability to make large electric motors. But not near silent large electric motors which is a technology only a couple of nations on earth possess. Besides changing the propulsion arrangements of a ship, even before it is built, is no laughing matter.Jdam wrote:Do the Aussies and Canadians have the ability to manufacture these components locally?
One thing not mentioned is that this site, if the released information from BAE is correct, would be likely to make the electric motors to propel the Dreadnought Class as it appears they will be turbo electric...I suspect that may have had as much to do with the Gov's decision as the T26's have.
Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
Good point I only heard five motors, makes sense to order 10 though.Timmymagic wrote:f its for ships 4-8 it will be for 10 motors (2 per ship).

I expect they will. They may as well have opted for clean sheet designs if they're redesigning the propulsion.bobp wrote:Also it would be nice if the Aussies and Canadians ordered some for their ships as well.

Has there not yet been any decision taken on what type of silo will be used for CAMM, in regards to the T26 in particular.Jake1992 wrote:It’s starting to make even more sense for us to move away from the mushrooms and go with ExLS on both the T26 and T31
