Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
That had better not be real wood on a warship.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I suspect that the last large scale wood used on a major RN was the wooden upperdeck (2 deck IIRC, level of the B turret) on the County class DLGs (Devonshire etc) in the 1960s-1980s.Ron5 wrote:That had better not be real wood on a warship.

Um....Ron5 wrote:That had better not be real wood on a warship.
Do the stores of softwood wedges kept on almost every RN warship for flooding and damage control count?!

If it is its most likely coated with some sort of fire retardant, or could be fake panelling.Ron5 wrote:That had better not be real wood on a warship.

God stop showing her rear please.
I wish you never brought up some time ago about those funny faces the rear brings because all I wont to do now is draw on it see what comes of it

You should look at the Ship's Cat Twitter main page title image. I think I might have inspired it!

I've got all my kids thinking this, every time we go on a harbour tour when she is in port they mention it, in fact I've also heard other passengers say..'oh yes, so it does!'R686 wrote:SKB wrote:

3 blasts from the horn. Still no CIWS. Missing some grey paint on the bow just above the black boot-top line.

Just a couple of weeks with helicopters (and RAS?) in home waters, for now.
You might also know me as Liger30, from that great forum than MP.net was.

16:30 - QE has headed west into the English Channel, speeds of up to 26.2 kts have been reached so far. Is now just SE of Torquay, Devon and closer to Devonport than Portsmouth. On Marine Traffic, a ship marked as "Daring" is escorting her, which seems unlikely.

I've had a look for the Tide class tankers with Marine Traffic too, for possible future QE RAS:
RFA Tidespring was last seen yesterday south of the Isle Of Arran and near the Firth of Clyde, Scotland.
RFA Tiderace was last seen in Portland Harbour, Dorset on 30th May 2018.
RFA Tidesurge in Falmouth since April 2018.
RFA Tideforce - South Korea!
