Cannot agree with Trump more. We need to get tougher on Muslim immigration and the Muslim communities already in our country.
Though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are. - Lord Tennyson (Ulysses)
Re: Donald Trump
I can understand stricter controls on who you let into the country, whilst I favour deportation here in Australia from those who immigrate and then break our laws and striped of Australian citizenship. but how do you deal with those already born in the country?WhitestElephant wrote:Cannot agree with Trump more. It has gone all quiet with our plan for a "toughened ASBO" wrt hate preachers?
- gathering them onto the outer Hebrides, to preach at each other (and the odd penguin )

Tabloid stuff; whether it was a real leak, or made up... who can tellR686 wrote:What?
Beyond tabloid sensationalism, the then-Home Secretary taking stock (in 2015) of new measures introduced:
"We made it easier to get rid of undesirable foreign nationals, including terrorists and terror suspects. We changed the law to make it clear to the courts that Article Eight of the European Convention on Human Rights, the right to respect for a family life, is a qualified and not an absolute right.
We strengthened the criteria governing the use of the Royal Prerogative, which allows the Government to cancel British passports to disrupt the travel of people planning to engage in terrorist-related activity overseas. And in 2014, I removed 24 passports from people intending to travel for terrorism-related activity – a four-fold increase on the previous year.
And we changed the law so that we can, in certain circumstances, remove citizenship from naturalised Britons who pose a threat to our country, alongside the previously existing power to strip British citizenship from those who have dual nationality. Since August 2013 I have deprived 10 people of their British citizenship on the grounds that I do not consider their presence in the UK to be conducive to the public good.
We are also working to deal with the propagandists. On coming to power in 2010 we significantly revised the ‘Prevent’ pillar of the counter-terrorism strategy so that it tackles the ideology behind the threat, and tackles all forms of terrorism, not just Islamist-related terrorism.
We have now trained 300,000 frontline workers to help identify and prevent extremism, and I have excluded nearly 100 preachers of hate, more than any of my predecessors."

Re: Donald Trump
The independent reviewer of terrorism legislation has specifically spelt out that having a normal consultation process would be more helpful (than leaving the tabloids guessing):
"The Task Force [on Tackling Radicalisation and Extremism] agreed a number of “
practical steps ” to address “the gaps in our response
” to extremism, under the headings of disrupting extremists (including by
consideration of new types of banning orders and civil powers), countering extremist
narratives and ideology, preventing radicalisation, integration, and stopping extremism
in institutions (schools, universities and further education, prisons).
9.26
These ideas were further developed by a speech given by the Home Secretary in
September 2014, and found a place in the Conservative Party’s manifesto for the 2015
general election. This promised, among other things:
a) to “outlaw groups that foment hate with new Banning Orders for extremist organisations”, and
b) to create
Extremist Disruption Orders
to “
restrict the harmful activities of extremist individuals
”, for example by “
prevent[ing] those who are seeking to
radicalise young British people online from using the internet or communicating via
social media
”.
The briefing that accompanied the Queen’s Speech stated that the Bill would also
provide for Closure Orders
, “a new power for law enforcement and local authorities to close down premises used to support extremism”.
216
9.27
In a speech given on 20 July 2015, the Prime Minister spoke of the need to defend
“basic liberal values such as democracy, freedom and sexual equality
” from “
certain intolerant ideas
”. Among the many ideas that he voiced for countering extremist
ideology and encouraging integration, he referred also to plans for “new narrowly
targeted powers to enable us to deal with ... facilitators and cult leaders, and stop them peddling their hatred”.
9.28
The Prime Minister’s Task Force conducted no public consultation; and there has been
no Green or White Paper on either the definition of the extremist activity that it is
proposed to suppress, or the details of the proposed new Banning Orders and
Extremist Disruption Orders. This could have been helpful.

Donald Trump sang the praises of Nambia, and said its healthcare system was "increasingly self-sufficient."
However, the country 'Nambia' doesn't exist.

Re: Donald Trump
The trail has taken the investigation where I started to expect it to land before it even having been started, as NBC reports today:
" Trump Jr.'s lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
Congressional committees and special counsel Robert Mueller are investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
Spanish anti-corruption officials have identified Torshin as a "godfather" in the Russian mafia — something Torshin [ the Deputy Gvrnr of the Russian Central Bank] has denied.
The disclosure is the latest example of a senior Russian official seeking to make high-level contacts with the Trump campaign.
It comes after the top Democrat and Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee sent Kushner a letter this week accusing him of failing to disclose a series of documents pursuant to requests by Congressional investigators"
- the same Spanish sources identified Putin (when he was still on St. Petersburg)

Much better detail here https://www.today.com/video/jared-kushn ... 8880579861
even though the source is the same, but another news channel (Today) has cottoned onto the story, so the interviewee from the other channel (how does it all work???) is more structured in explaining why this is significant and where it might lead

Re: Donald Trump
Just a snippet from a WP journo's study of Trump's TV watching habits; gathered by talking to 60 people close to the POTUS:
Trump himself begins the day commendably early. (It’s the farmer in him.) The Times says he rises at 5:30 and turns on the TV. For some reason, he watches CNN — monitoring fake news, no doubt — and then self-medicates with “Fox & Friends.” Later, in an updated version of “hate week” from George Orwell’s “1984,” he clicks on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” His friends suspect the program’s critical approach “fires him up for the day.”

Re: Donald Trump
Now it is quite difficult to see what this is all about: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... hael-wolff
- the predictions are quite likely (also, unlikely outcomes are "likely" in this mess)
But is it Bannons revenge to "Javanka" who, through their combined efforts got him fired?
Or, is it, as Henry Kissiger is reported to be saying: A war between the Jews and the non-Jews of the administration? Sounds a bit unlikely as who else than Jared would be on the other side?

Small fire breaks out at the top of Trump Tower. The "Orange One" was not in the tower at the time.

You're never going to get a clean candidate... not anymore. Oprah is being touted simply because she gave a good speech, I highly doubt she'll actually ever run.

The making public of the transcript of the August hearing on the GPS Fusion/ Steele dossier has brought the question of its sources back into focus:SDL wrote:You're never going to get a clean candidate... not anymore. https://edition.cnn.com/2017/03/24/euro ... index.html
In the hearing itself there is a lot of emphasis on the dossier with a Russian focus only emerging after the net had been cast wide, without any specific focus
... now someone is already preparing one on Oprah May be a bit premature; you would need someone to pay for the effort.

Re: Donald Trump
Reuters (of yesterday)
" for his administration to use sanctions to punish Moscow for past election interference and prevent future meddling in U.S. polls.
"Given the long timeframes generally associated with major defense deals, the results of this effort are only beginning to become apparent," Nauert said. "From that perspective, if the law is working, sanctions on specific entities or individuals will not need to be imposed because the legislation is, in fact, serving as a deterrent."
In what was seen as a test of Trump's willingness to crack down on Russia, Congress had given the administration a Jan. 29 deadline to release key reports under the law.
The State Department said further details were contained in a classified report it had submitted to Congress."
Nothing much at all to do with defence deals, but the timing (for releasing detaiuls about the corruption within Russia's ruling inner circle was designed for consumption during their elections)
... and on the day - Trump says he won't do it
