Quick poll: who has a photo of QE on her trials as their wallpaper?
I do. Stern view with Merlin after first landing taken from 2nd Merlin.

I've got an in-game photo I took from Forza Horizon 3 as my backdrop, showing of a car design I created.

Is anybody else getting concerned about the length of time she's spending in Invergorden?

If its just the weekend, don't think it's much to worry about just civvies going home for weekend?cockneyjock1974 wrote:Is anybody else getting concerned about the length of time she's spending in Invergorden?

Apparently she's sailing on Tuesday according to social media. I also read that some of the crew were having a great time in the local British Legion.

I saw a Tuesday comment on there too. From the mother of a sailor on board. You can get some good information on FB though some of the "less informed" comments are pretty cringeworthycockneyjock1974 wrote:Apparently she's sailing on Tuesday according to social media. Yep especially the "there's no aircraft on her", where are the harriers and should have gone nuclear/CATOBAR.

Can anybody tell me why she's got her anchor down whilst tied up dockside? Perhaps our ex RN contingent could explain further and yes I'm beginning to think something is wrong now, I hope I'm mistaken of course.

I'm hearing rumours about damage to the drive shafts and a need to go to dry dock in Rotterdam. Normally I wouldn't pay any attention to low level Matelot gossip, but...
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
just speculating here... could there have been more damage than we've been told by whatever it is that she collected?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
The 'story' I was told this week is that due to the fact the propellers had to fitted by divers, there was some problem that wasn't picked up until she was travelling at 20+ kts. This caused damage to the drive shafts which will require dry docking to fix.
Normally I don't believe rumours like this, told to me by a Matelot (with no involvement in the programme) during a cigarette break. I'll leave others to decide whether this is truth, half truth or just nonsense.

Hope not going to be as much problems as was with the French carrier c de g ( propellers ) and how long time that took to rectify .like you said hopefully just roomer's and if worst case at least they have time too fix hmspow before she enters the water even if HMS qe knocked back few MTS before testing again .its a 50yr program so snags are going too happen its no biggy .

Nice of [redacted] to comment about my last post. Seem's she lost sight of the actual tweet by QNLZ staff and the fact us 'posters' were extremely proud to update on here about all things related to QNLZ and PWLS !!!
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Her shafts do look very long, hence the requirement for double shaft supports, with all the crap in the sea, and the fact a shaft become fouled so early in her sea trial, maybe a long term fix of some kind of guard may be required? Hope this doesn't turn into a long delay as the press are going to love it.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
On the old Admiralty fuel depot peer there are dolphins (fixed mooring beyond the jetty) ships larger than the jetty would use them for the tie up the forward and aft lines. The West harbour extension was built in 1985-1987(I worked at the Marine craft unit at the time) for servicing oil rigs as the used anchor's and they were not needed. In fact the berth in front of Queen Elizabeth has stone on 2 sides of the dock Rig don't need steel pilling sides. The Cromarty Firth Port Authority provisioned for use by commercial shipping because The Fuel depot R.F.A and R A F craft was still using the admiralty jetty. With the over hang of the forward hull the and the prevailing winds the anchor hold the ship of the dock wall knuckle. Acting as a forward mooring. When R.F.A. apple leaf was along side the admiralty jetty because she extended beyond the inner dolphins she had to drop anchor to act as a forward mooring hawser. Hope this explains.cockneyjock1974 wrote:Can anybody tell me why she's got her anchor down whilst tied up dockside? I take it Portsmouth dock is full?
Oh and had to laugh about the matelot!
Found this poem after a quick google search thought I`d share it with you`s I think it`s pretty much Bob on. Any one know anymore?
WHAT THE FCUK IS A MATELOT ANYWAY!
A Matelot is not born; he is made out of leftovers! God built the world and the animals and then recycled the gash to create this dastardly weapon. He took the leftover roar of the lion, the howl of the hyena, the clumsiness of the ox, the stubbornness of the mule, the slyness of the fox, the wildness of the bull and the pride of a peacock - then added the filthy evil mind of the devil to satisfy his weird sense of humour.
A Matelot evolved into a crude combination of John Dillinger, Errol Flynn, Beau Brummel and Valentino - a swashbuckling , beer -swilling - lovemaking - LIAR!
A Matelot likes girls, rum, beer, fights, uckers, runs ashore, pubs, jokes, long leave, his mates and his ticket. He hates officers, rounds, divisions, saluting middies, naval police, painting the side, jaunties, navy scran, his turn in the barrel and signing on!
A Matelot comes in four colours; white, off white, dirty and filthy - all looking alike under a tan and a uniform. He is brave drinking beer, abusive playing crib, brutal defending his pride and passionate making love. He can start a brawl, create a disaster, offend the law, desert his ship, and make you lose your money, your temper and your mind!
He can take your sister, your mother, your aunt, and when he is caught get his captain to vouch for his integrity.
A matelot is loved by all mothers, sisters, aunts and nieces; hated by all fathers, brothers, uncles and nephews.
He has a girl in every port and a port in every girl. He breaks more hearts, causes more fights and begets more bastards than any other man, yet when he is off to sea he is missed more than any other!
A matelot is a mean, hard drinking, fast running, mealy mouthed son-of-a-bitch, but when you are in strife he is a strong shoulder to lean on, a pillar of wisdom, and a defender of the faith and cause. He fights for his mate, and dies for his country, without question or hesitation!
This is a Matelot!
