Said this sometime back but as we have funding for 1000 Boxers maybe we should stop at 800 and then take the 800 million for the last 200 Boxers and buy 600+ Patria 6x6

The UK is pushing Gripens in Thailand, because their construction provide value to the UK.

A lot of the research is focused on landing Drones, some of which require arrestor wires be fitted, which would make the QE a STOBAR Carrier, capable of landing a large range of drones and allied aircraft (Rafale, F-18 etc). I do certainly hope a re-evaluation of the types of crewed aircraft our carriers operate is conducted as well as the drone research and we think about acquiring cheaper to run aircraft like the Gripen (which as pointed out is 30% UK components, and we can have a production line in the UK). Flying a F-35B costs over 40k USD per hour, twice that of the latest Gripen and it is not sustainable.

Yes, that is a vision, but it would take time and it is uncertain will it happen in entirety. Lot will depend on money as usual. And even if all happen it will happen in stages over many years. So will not see STOBAR/CATOBAR planes on QE any time soon (if at all).

Yea ... that is not going to happen. UK will not switch from F-35B to older, lass capable plane, that is for sure. So no Gripens for UK. Even if decision is made to switch to CATOBAR plane, it will be either F-35C or wait till potential naval version of Tempest is ready.

Selling Gripen to other might be in UK economic interest but getting Gripen for themselves is not. Especially not for carrier operations.

BTW, UK also has economic interest in F-35, altho percentage wise not as big as for Gripen (some 15% more or less). But as F-35 is both more expensive and ordered in far larger numbers, you can't tell for certain that Gripen would economically benefit UK more.
