Just a thought. I know it's extremely difficult (dangerous even) to reload a VLS at sea, due to ship movement - would the same issue occur with an inherantly more stable platform like a carrier?

The carriers do load stores through very wide clearence hangar doors...

And they already have to do resupply at sea of meteor or other AAM's.

RAS and loading a VLS are two completely different activities!

I refer to carrier VLS. I would Imagine it would be far easier to load it into the hanger like all other loads, but it on the aircraft lift, onto the deck, and lined up from the deck to the VLS. It's not the same as trying to use a crane from one ship to load a vertical VLS canister on another ship.

If a carrier had vls and loaded the tubes using an onboard crane , the crane would be pitching and rolling with the tube., unlike the scenario of a ship being loaded
by a crane on an auxiliary pitching differently

Not only that but Ceptor missiles are loaded while still inside their carry/launch cases and are physically much smaller. I suspect it wouldn't be an insuperable problem.

And the missile dangling from the crane on the end of a wire how would that behave?

That's the $64,000 question, isn't it. Movement should be considerably less on a vessel of that size.
Would a heave compensated crane improve matters? Or would it be ineffective/ too costly?

Plenty of cranes on any RN warship. Like on land, sway is controlled with guys on ropes. Ceptor in its box is not that heavy (missile itself is about 200 lbs) and is well protected against scrapes & bumps. They even let army squaddies play with them!

If worst comes to worst use an articulated arm / Crane with a grabber to manuver it, a.k.a no ropes. My idea was more Use the wide clearance of RAS through hanger door- Onto aircraft lift - Onto deck level with the VLS and slide it right to the assigned cell and use a hinge to turn it from horizontal to vertical.

That's the sort of system the USN have experimented with more recently. A pair of arms on a rail mounted base to grab around the cannister then rotate it into an upright position from flat on the deck.

Indeed, they are hoping to be back in time for the Easter break, but obviously that's not for certain.

RAF mate. They caused it.

If they were waiting for the RAF jets, it would be another 6 months (take them that long to get them out of the Red Lion) but they're not

Let's just hope all's well with a quick sailing as soon as,and theres no more announcements with breakdowns.at least until this deployment if finished and possibly red sea , don't think it would go down well that both carriers we out of action ,would be a complete humiliation laughing stock tbh ,and terrible for the lads and lasses onboard, taken up that hill and brought back down yet again.best of Luck too all onboard, fingers crossed for you all🤞👍

It would be due to sail next week but would get delayed at the last minute.

Not sure who’s doing navy PR but to make the same mistake a week later doesn’t say much. Do the PR when it’s sailing out!

Navy lookout said it will be probably going out at tomorrow lunch. I feel like it will, for whatever that's worth.

Looking from the webcam I can see MoD police boat is present, radar is turning, and gangways are no longer connected to the ship.
