That makes the threat a bit higher than I had thought…The Houthis have also used ballistic and cruise missiles during the recent attacks

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]
Agree. But, ballistic anti-ship missile? Or ballistic land-attack missile? The former is NOT a sever threat to a ship. But, for a merchant ship, it will be. To counter these threat, I think a T45 and/or AEGIS DDG will be able to cover it.
Cruise missile, of sub-sonic one, is what the CAMM, ASTER, ESSM and SM2/6 are all prepared for. T23, T45, FREMM, all can contribute there.
PS We saw a news that JDFS Akebono had been fired a ballistic missile.
... Sakai said that there was no threat to the safety of the Akebono, but added that he thinks it is impossible to respond if there is a fear of a direct hit from a ballistic missile because the destroyer is not equipped with an anti-ballistic missile system.
He also pointed out that ballistic missiles in Yemen are believed to lack precision, and he said the current MSDF mission there will continue.

And now for those who think that 32 Vls is enough we now are seeing in urgency a air bridge of A400M to deliver Aster-15 missiles to restores the missiles numbers on the ship example the French Fremm below .

Seven shoot downs for HMS Diamond overnight.
Against a total of 21 drones, anti-ship cruise and anti-ship ballistic missiles according to the BBC.
“Eighteen drones, two cruise missiles and one ballistic missile” shot down.

Could have done with the CAMM fitted aswell, at least it's only one missile for each target, where's the American's fire 2 missiles at each target I'm lead to believe?,but yes if it all kicks off low numbers of stock and low numbers of VT tubes could come back to haunt penny pinching planner's ,and I'm sure there be he'll to pay if ship got hit for lack of adequate missiles ,cos I'm sure the Iranian overloads are telling them to overload the ships 48 missiles with waves of drones and missiles, fingers crossed for the brave lads and lasses onboard and let's just hope no problems with the ship as in power going down at a critical time

The telling point is that this isn’t Russia or China, it’s not even Iran. It’s an Iranian proxy.inch wrote: ↑10 Jan 2024, 15:50 Could have done with the CAMM fitted aswell, at least it's only one missile for each target, where's the American's fire 2 missiles at each target I'm lead to believe?,but yes if it all kicks off low numbers of stock and low numbers of VT tubes could come back to haunt penny pinching planner's ,and I'm sure there be he'll to pay if ship got hit for lack of adequate missiles ,cos I'm sure the Iranian overloads are telling them to overload the ships 48 missiles with waves of drones and missiles, fingers crossed for the brave lads and lasses onboard and let's just hope no problems with the ship as in power going down at a critical time

HMS Diamond, the Royal Navy's "jewel in the naval crown", is a versatile and capable platform with the ability to carry out a wide range of war-fighting and constabulary duties.
The highly capable Type 45 air defence destroyer is one of the most advanced warships in the world.

After action report – Royal Navy’s busiest air defence activity since 1982
https://www.navylookout.com/after-actio ... ince-1982/
Contains interesting comment on DS-30B 30mm cannon.
To anyone who served on an ADAWS ship the leap in capability from Sea Dart to Sea Viper is clearly vast.

I wonder if they are now exploring 16 cell mk41 to give the maximum 64 CAMM/CAMM-ER

The T45 with 48x Aster 30, 64x CAMM and 8x NSM would be one of the most capable escorts afloat.
The Mk8 really needs to be deleted and replaced with the 57mm when the new VLS cells are fitted.

Good news but this upgrade program is due to be completed by 2032 and the T45 OSD’s run over three years starting in 2035.tomuk wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 02:17 Looks like MOD have agreed with MBDA to go for Aster Block 1 NT. Briefing from Shaps has gone out to the sunday papers.

Perhaps a little more urgency is warranted.
