Outdoors? Not indoors either. They will just build it as one, no 2 pieces then attach but indoors stuff. Built like a T31.

Does anyone know why the Type 26 carries only a VDS but not a linear towed array (excluding S2170)? Both the Constellation and the Chinese Type 054B will have both a VDS and a linear towed array.

T26 carries S2087, or CAPTAS-4. It has BOTH
- VDS
- TASS
independently towed, and their data is combined.

We order through Ultra Defence, hence the name 2087 and all of that? do they have a UK production and maintenance line?

According to https://academic-accelerator.com/encycl ... sonar-2087 "Sonar 2087 (part of the overall Sonar product CAPTAS-4, sometimes abbreviated S2087) is manufactured by Thales Underwater Systems at its UK sites (Crawley West Sussex, Cheadle Heath Stockport, Somerset Templecom) towed array sonar designed and manufactured by And also in France (Brest)."

Thales do the towed array
Ultra supply the Hull mounted sonar

why do we still order through ultra for the TAS again?

Who knows? Why is Lockheed Martin the prime contractor on Merlin? Just the usual procurement shenanigans.

Looks like we might have a solution to what the RN puts in Mk.41 VLS on Type 26....

CAMM-MR....twin packed in Mk.41...>100km range....

There are 2 elements...the towed array from Ultra, and the LFA towed body from Thales

Yeah. Not quad. Interesting. Also looks like CAMM-MR is still cold launched; the exhaust hatch is not used.

Yes its been confirmed already that cold launch direct from its own canister will be retained.

Has this been confirmed ? I’m surprised it’ll be so much larger in diameter than CAMM and CAMM-ER, do we know it’s confirmed diameter ?

Has its range been confirmed yet either ?

Why 2 and not 4? Whilst this does sound great, does it mean that those of us getting excited that MK41 VLS will be used to give the T26 and T31 some teeth might be disappointed

Wdym it has always been suggested that it would be a 1 or 2 pack.

This is from an MBDA presentation.

It needs to be a whole lot wider and longer than CAMM/CAMM-ER as its range is a whole lot greater. Range has been confirmed as >100km.

Think of CAMM-ER as the ESSM competitor and CAMM-MR as SM-2....only with 2 in a cell rather than 1.
