If you mean, the cost of "PIP AND SeaCeptor adding" combined is £408M for 6 hulls, I have no objection.

Anyway, it shall not be compared with £160M only for PIP.

Interesting photo to see the detailed work of "adding/replacing diesel gen on T45 (PIP)". It's like a surgery...

Defender is Fourth T45 to go for PIP. I was surprised she went ahead of Diamond.

20 secs into thd video it says the ships Wildcat practiced hunting for Subs. How exactly does a Wildcat do that when our version carries no dipping sonar (unlike South Koreas) ?

The Wildcat and carrying Sting Ray light torpedoes provide the Type 45 with limited anti-submarine capability. The rather basic MFS-7000 bow-mounted sonar is the only ASW sensor and the Wildcat carries no dipping sonar or sonobuoys for contact localisation. The Wildcat would effectively be reliant on other parties for targeting data such as the USN Poseidon MPA that participated in this exercise.

Different take on the immediate future long range search radar capability required for current AAW destroyers by the RN as opposed to the Dutch, French and Italians Navies who are installing new AESA GaN radars (in June the MOD and BAE Systems announced they are jointly investing £50 million to develop the next generation of radar technology for the RN required to tackle emerging threats, including ballistic missiles and drones).

Lt. Cmdr. Alex Haasnoot of the Royal Netherlands Navy. the ship’s operations officer of HNLMS De Ruyter, a De Zeven Provinciën class frigates speaking during a tour of the ship at the DSEI conference. Haasnoot said the previous radar (the SMART-L, the basis of the BAE (Marconi) S1850M fitted on the T45s, QNLZ and the French and Italian Horizon class frigates whose MLU will replace the S1850M with the SMART-L MM/N) had maxed out its capability and could not accommodate further modifications to address new threats, such as smaller and tougher-to-spot ballistic or hypersonic missiles. With the new Thales radar (SMART-L MM/N), he explained, the fleet is only beginning to understand the full capability. The service will continue experimenting with the radar, find new missions and threats for which it’s useful, and work with engineers to make modifications for these additional uses.

https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-l ... drugs-bust

A Royal Navy warship seized £60m worth of drugs and forced traffickers to scuttle their speedboat in a double-blow to Caribbean drug-runners.

Portsmouth-based destroyer HMS Dauntless took her tally to more than £200m worth of illegal narcotics intercepted after hunting down a 35ft power boat.

During a routine counter-narcotics patrol of the Caribbean Sea, Dauntless launched her Wildcat helicopter and Royal Marines sniper team to close in on the suspect craft.

When smugglers began to jettison their illegal cargo, their engines were taken out with precision by the commando snipers, bringing the boat to a juddering halt.

That allowed a U.S. Coast Guard team to be dispatched from Dauntless and 11 large bales of cocaine weighing 330kg to be seized.

Dauntless deployed to the Caribbean in May to work with British Overseas Territories during the region’s hurricane season, but also to join the international fight against drugs smuggling.

In this role, Dauntless works closely with U.S. authorities – embarking a U.S. Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team known as a law enforcement detachment who are deployed with the authority to board and search suspect vessels.

Along with the ship’s powerful array of sensors and radars, Dauntless has a Wildcat helicopter and Royal Marines sniper team from 42 Commando who provide reconnaissance, surveillance, and aerial support during complex and often dangerous boarding operations.

Things are heating up very fast in the Red Sea of the coast of Yemen.
Today was the first use in combat of the MBDA Aster-15 missile.

I assume why the RN is replacing aster 15 with camm fleet wide and only retaining aster 30. If indeed these were engaged with missiles

I feel even CAMM is overkill for these Iranian drones. Naval gunnery seems a far better approach.

That might well be the case as long as these drones don't have missiles. But either way hitting them with CAMM is cheaper than Aster 15.
