QHM Portsmouth is saying that QE will berth bows north at Princess Royal Jetty IN Portsmouth around 6pm tomorrow.
Which leaves the escort fleet in the Solent, a bit like a Spithead Fleet Review?!

Indeed, my nipper has bombarded me with pics and videos of QNLZ from PWLS. If I knew how to get them on here I would. 8-)

Please share if you can, my lad is on the QE and despite repeated requests he sends me diddly squat :(

I’ve told him that when he’s on deployment no photos = no parcels from home

Just a great picture before we get swamped with all the two carrier photos later today or tomorrow.

Loved this shot so much I went digging for the full resolution version to use as my desktop background!

Definitely worth zooming in for the detail!

(Navy Lookout) 19th May 2021
In a change of plan, HMS Queen Elizabeth came back into Portsmouth after ending participation in exercise Warrior slightly early. Originally there was no plan for ships of the CSG to re-enter Portsmouth and they were going to have anchored in the Solent. This was primarily a photo opportunity and to allow VIPs to visit before the group sailed for the deployment.

Unfortunately, gales up to 50 mph are forecast for 20th – 21st May and it makes more sense to come alongside than anchor in a gale. This not because RN vessels cannot cope with storms but it is prudent to be in a safe harbour when you have the opportunity rather than needlessly out on an open anchorage in foul weather.

Had the weather been good, the group would have made a fine spectacle, the largest gathering of warships in the Solent since the 2005 Trafalgar Fleet Review. Alongside, it is also easier to top up with food and fuel, although personnel access will be on and off the ship will be strictly controlled.

I love the added splash from the two LCACs, into an otherwise 'static' photo.

This below is from today's DID; anyone know if we got a prerelease or are using something home grown?
According to a press release, the Navy declared initial operational capability for the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) earlier this month. JPALS has been supporting F-35B deployments on LH-class amphibious assault ships with early operational capability since 2016 and can now provide the precision navigation and landing capability for F-35s on aircraft carriers as well, says the Navy.
Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.
If everyone is thinking the same, then someone is not thinking (attributed to Patton)

I've worked out why there's always a 280m vs 284m length discrepancy with the QEC length data.

One person measured from stern to bow (280m) and the other person measured from stern to front of the bulbous bow (284m).
Yep, they're longer below the water line than they are above it. Simple as that.

And no, PoW isn't longer than QE, they're identical. Just read both runways length markers (given in feet). They're the same.

Balderdash, the PoW is obviously longer, look at the relative positions of the "P" and "Q".

Faster too.

Great photos however for just a little bit more effort they could have put six or so helicopters on POW

1998 Strategic Defence Review:

“The emphasis is now on increased offensive air power, and an ability to operate the largest possible range of aircraft in the widest possible range of roles. When the current carrier force reaches the end of its planned life, we plan to replace it with two larger vessels.”
