Royal Navy to Get 450 More Sailors in Defence Review
Read More: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... eview.htmlThe Royal Navy will be given 450 more sailors in next week’s defence review, less than a quarter the number admirals had lobbied for, the Telegraph can disclose.
The Government’s six-month-long Strategic Defence and Security Review will include plans for the extra crew after the Navy said it needed hundreds more sailors to man its new aircraft carriers.
Defence chiefs and ministers are expected to continue haggling over the defence spending plans throughout the weekend, before the long-awaited review is unveiled by David Cameron on Monday afternoon.

Wonder how the above relates to the previous 300 new posts plus another 300 officer posts "to be converted"?
- probably the same thing, was established that some of the experts gaps can only be closed by paying them officer salaries (cfr: doctors in the armed forces)

Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.

Cameron also discusses the additional Typhoons and F35s.
David Cameron article in the Telegraph:

Also good to see he says carriers.Over the next decade we will invest more than £178 billion in buying and maintaining equipment – including doubling our investment in equipment to support our Special Forces.
We will create two new strike brigades, forces of up to 5,000 personnel each, fully equipped to deploy rapidly and sustain themselves in the field.
We will establish two additional Typhoon squadrons and an additional squadron of F35 Lightning combat aircraft to operate from our new aircraft carriers. And we will invest in nine maritime patrol aircraft to protect our nuclear deterrent, hunt down hostile submarines and enhance our maritime search and rescue.

Without doubt the most optimistic couple of paragraphs I've seen on this forum in a while.Dave wrote:Cameron also discusses the additional Typhoons and F35s.

From his previous, quite possibly, but he normally leaves himself wiggle room to back out by just announcing the same money over and over, to actually quote squadron numbers seems to put him in a corner that he just might have to carry out what he says..shark bait wrote:Without doubt the most optimistic couple of paragraphs I've seen on this forum in a while.Dave wrote:Cameron also discusses the additional Typhoons and F35s.

2x Strike Bdes!!?
One Airborne and one Amphibious, no doubt.
Weighing in at around 42t each , would this have a impact on deployment ? , wouldn't a lighter 8x8 armoured wheeled vehicle like a styker be more appropriate ?? considering in the report it suggest these new strike brigades are to be able to deploy with speed over long distances or were ever needed quickly . Would using such a heavy vehicle in reality restrict its actual deployment ? , I'm no expert so apologies if that seems a silly question .
Re: SDSR 2015 / "Defence Cuts" General News & Discussion
Lugzy it is not a silly question. Also remember the Ajax/Scout thingies are not yet built. They are talking of the future not tomorrow probably 2020 before anything happens. Yes I agree how can you rapidly deploy heavy/medium weight armour rapidly.

A new class of light frigates at more affordable prices than the T26, starting with an initial 5 to complement 8 T26....
Interesting.
Interesting.

Did he imply that the escort fleet would grow beyond the current 19?
