Impossible, the F-16 emerged fully formed and operational from the brow of Pierre Sprey. The other Gods of Fighters looked upon it and agreed it was perfect. Horns sounded in every Temple and the Virgins danced with joy.

Amusingly, even the F-16 was considered too advanced for him. His vision was aircraft without radar to get more for cheaper.

It's no wonder he hates the F-35!

Sprey never designed anything. He was the analyst that sided with Boyd, the one who actually flew stuff. And Sprey certainly didn't design the F-16. Harry Hillaker and his team did.

Finally, the success of the F-16 is in no small measure due to the fact that it rather radically departed from Boyd / Sprey's idea of lightweight day fighter from before even entering service.

Move the Turkish stuff to European countries I guess.

I guess that engine maintenance line won't last long. "UK BILLION DOLLAR ENGINES SERVICED IN ERDOGAN'S ISLAMIC TURKEY."

RAF will be having a big party on 10th July with a flypast over London, near to a 100 aircraft and the F-35 will be making an appearance.. may slightly be outdone by the 22 strong Typhoon squadron

Wow - impressive array of aircraft. With the notable exception of the Typhoon (according to Gabriele's tweets, there will be some 20-30 involved) and the Red Arrows we are likely to just see one or two of each class if the total number is "up to 100" aircraft. Still, 100ish airframes is pretty impressive - don't think I can make it unfortunately

It's going over me.... generally flypasts like this go within view of my front door, though i may have to find somewhere to park to get a better look.

It is going to be impressive, but it looks like the barrel will be scraped back to bare metal to achieve. Going to be great though.

As was entirely expected. I've been telling everyone for years. It wasn't exactly a secret.

A little "tip" as to who else might be a customer of the facility:

General André Lanata (French AF Chief) gave an interesting answer to the Defence Committee of the French Parliament, when asked for the justification for the e80 bn to be poured into the Franco-German fighter project:
- without planes matching the F-35 standard (generic) one would need to question whether it is wise to take part in any high-end air warfare

Well, they won't have theirs in 5 years' time; we will have two dozen; PAK-FA might make it into production if the new engine comes along

The French mentality and their sense of pride means they will sink billions into a next gen F-35 competitor even if only they and the Germans ever use it. They cannot do anything else.
