3rd one in the UK and 4th in production, getting there.
Does anyone know when we expect the rest of the P-8's we ordered, it seems like things are starting to come together now and I'm just wondering if we are going to see them come to the UK at the same rate or will there be gaps.

Not in the know, but didn't we bring back 25-27 people from Seedcorn?
At some point standing up new crews might slow down (with much more training per head rqrd needing to be carried out)

Probably thought it to be a mis-spelling and meant Cold War. Some may even have connected it to the wrong ICELAND!

Saw it on route to Lossie yesterday while I was out walking the mutts. Roll on number 5.

Horizon Technologies shipped the AMBER payload to AAC Clyde Spacebus in Glasgow for integration in a maritime intelligence cubesat for launch in 2021, funded from Innovate UK and private sources.
Its aim to collect and geolocate RF signals from earth by detecting and monitoring vessels and use passive SIGINT and ESM sensors, a further development of the Horizon FlyingFish airborne system.
Purpose to provide intel on piracy, illegal trans-shipments, illegal fishing and refugee smuggling. Think limited use for monitoring/targeting ships for naval operations as too few in number of satellites? as not a constellation with numbers needed for targeting, also if ships operating in EMCON mode will not register. If in right orbit and ships actively emitting the operations centre at the National Maritime Information Centre Portsmouth could possibly supply its electronic data instaneously to RN CIC.

Looks like Lossiemouth is on the cusp of being fully completed..
I know it makes sense to a degree but can't help feeling that having all of your eggs in one basket is a bit risky. Back in the Cold War there was Lossiemouth, Kinloss and Leuchars, with Leeming helping out. I could understand it more if we actually committed to defend it a little better with a Land Ceptor battery, but that isn't going to happen.

I’d prefer to see a second Squadron (of 8) based at RNAS Culdrose.

Nothing wrong with that idea, but I would still prefer to see a second Squadron of P8 at RNAS Culdrose in addition to the one at Lossiemouth.

It would have to be RAF St Mawgan. A lot of the facilities are still there, especially the munitions area, with far more hardstanding and dispersal. Culdrose if far too busy with helo's and training.Scimitar54 wrote:Nothing wrong with that idea, but I would still prefer to see a second Squadron of P8 at RNAS Culdrose in addition to the one at Lossiemouth.

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (MRA Mk.1) (RAF)
Tried to accommodate a Southern Squadron on a currently operational Air Base, to save the costs associated with re-opening and maintaining an additional one. I am sure flying schedules could accommodate the (long) flights of an additional 8 aircraft. Anyway as we don’t actually have another 8 P8s, it must at least be hypothetically possible.
Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (MRA Mk.1) (RAF)
The wider RAF St Mawgan/Newquay Airport site has had some rather exciting proposals in recent years including funds going towards a horizontal launch spaceport.Timmymagic wrote:It would have to be RAF St Mawgan. Fairly modest investment could turn it into a regional hub for aerospace and defence. The runway orientation is ideal for nighttime operations too.

Yes, which is another reason for my not suggesting it re-opening as an RAF Station.
Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (MRA Mk.1) (RAF)
We'd do better having regular detachments down south that anything permanent. But we need at least three more P-8s to even start to consider anything along those lines.

RAF St Mawgan is still open.Scimitar54 wrote:Yes, which is another reason for my not suggesting it re-opening as an RAF Station.
Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (MRA Mk.1) (RAF)
If we can't afford extra P-8 could have eight Sea Protector UCAV carrying sonobuoys and torpedoes.
