here the question mark is in the right place, as The Times article (if I read it right) was implying that the item is unbudgeted for as far as JSFs are concerned.
- or was the source just not informed? Or the, by now, fairly old boxes are looking for a little empty space? ... lots of those on F-35Bs (that has been struggling to maintain any weight margin for future upgrades)

should be a bit more than just radios:
"(TIEC) is the project name adopted for the introduction of a common system solution that provides Link 16 and IDM data link communications [...] substituting an equivalent item which is lighter, slightly smaller, and comes in a single box instead of 2 boxes. It also reportedly offers higher bandwidth for information sharing than Link 16 alone."

UK Royal Air Force Hails Eurofighter Capability Improvements to Create ‘World’s Most Potent Fighter’

"Gp. Capt. John Cunningham, who heads up Project Centurion - the programme to improve the jet’s capabilities for the UK fleet - said: “By the end of 2018, no other aircraft in the world will have all of the Typhoon’s capabilities.

“It will have the long-range air-to- air Meteor missile, Brimstone and Storm Shadow which can hit moving targets and underground structures, Paveway IV laser guided bombs, the Litening III targeting pod and ASRAAM air-to-air missiles. All this will come together by December 2018 making the next year the biggest game changer ever in the development of this aircraft"

Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.

It is / will be very impressive (exc. that SS cannot hit moving targets; but that is a point of grammar, no more).
- hence, taking a breather with the F-35 (kitting out the ONE strike carrier and the OTHER littoral, supporting act will do very nicely, thank you)

There was this The Times article (actually two of them, on top of each other) and obviously they were "gap fillers" as both of them retold the story from other publications (the RN one was v good, as I had not read the source article).
- but: the one on the JSF Audit/ Test report stated that the cannon on all the three versions of the JSF cannot shoot straight (but instead, is veering to the right); Big News! However,
- there isn't a cannon on all of the three (A, B, C) versions... and! the podded one does indeed shoot straight :)

I know reading through these half-a-hundred page reports that have been edited in a very poor format (for comparison, I guess?) is boring... but! attention to the detail does not hurt (the lawyers would have that knack, but none of us [?] around here are lawyers).

Astute, best way to sink ships is via sub, considering the AAW capabilities these days.

A spear3 storm will give you a mission kill. The original AsUW alpha strike was a below horizon lob attack of airburst 1000lb bombs by the Buccs. The Soviet era and even modern Sino/Russian designs have lots of exposed rotating array in high places, take them and the ship is blind.

Of course, the RN has 15 SSNs, so there's not even a theoretical chance that SSN will not be at every possible place where she might be needed.

Any source on it? Tried having a quick google, couldn't spot anything.

Would like to see a sale. Just hesitant as it's been "close" for some time now.

Read this at the time, but as you say, it has been inching closer for years:
BAE 'poised to land Saudi Typhoon deal' | Business | The Times
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/bae- ... -rpsdz8jhg
5 days ago - BAE Systems has raised hopes of fresh orders for Typhoon fighter jets from Saudi Arabia.Charles Woodburn, chief executive of Britain's biggest defence company...

Any further details or links you can share Ron? Would be fantastic news if it does materialise. Would royally piss off Labour, the Greens, Lib Dems, SNP et al.

Notice how all the articles referencing upbeat sales came out the same day as BAE released their 2017 financial results. It's not startling that the CEO is fluffing up export prospects the same day he says the lack of exports will stunt BAE Plc's growth in the coming years.

Any good CEO will remain bullish (publicly) about their company's prospects if they have a chance.

Good observation.

Hopeful, but I think you may be right.

Carrot on a stick = Saudi batch 2

Will be great news if BAE finally get the carrot, Typhoon supply chain will be secure for a long time.

It'd be great to see it signed, but if the speculation is being fuelled by those news reports then I wouldn't hold my breath.

Saw a Bae video under development announcing the contract.

Isn't some Saudi bigwig visiting the UK in the near future? Be a good time for an announcement.

Tremendous news if it happens.
If the Saudi order comes off how long would the production line be open then as an estimate???
Also, if the Belgium and Germany orders happened how would that effect the production runs in the various countries?
Could we be talking production past 2025? 2030?

Extending the Typhoon production run would open some interesting possibilities as to the growth of the platform.

Think the Qatar order takes UK assembly out to 2024, so Saudi batch 2 will likely take things past 2025.

Weren't the Saudi's pushing conformal tanks at some point?
