Re: Typhoon
There was a reported cut of 200 million already after the SDSR 2010 in Storm Shadow holdings. Given the value of each round on the books, for all we know 200 missiles could have been written off back then already.
Interestingly, France is throwing away an even greater share of its Scalp missiles, retaining reportedly only around 100. http://www.defensenews.com/story/defens ... /78441944/

Re: Typhoon
Just saw the stats on this:bobp wrote:And how many of those airframes are actually fully serviceable and ready for combat? I believe the US has approx. 1900 combat jets.
- Typhoon, depending on the owner nation 40-70%
- USAF, depending on the type (correlates with age) 70-80%
It is of course for fully serviceable, ready for combat is a very narrow definition (or can be read so)

Flight trials of E-scan radar announced

Quick question - are the tranche 1's able to accept this upgrade ?
And what plans are there to integrate this capability?

Re: Typhoon
It'll already be great news if it goes onto Tranche 2. Tranche 1 is pretty much out of the question: while not completely impossible, it is technically very complex and extremely expensive.
It'll be installed on Tranche 3A aircraft first, and then, hopefully, on Tranche 2 if we are lucky. Its retrofit should be part of the futurible Phase 4 enhancement phase in the early 2020s, but there are no contracts yet for that. First Typhoon to get the AESA, it seems, will be the new production examples for Kuwait.

Is there any information about whethe the Kuwaiti Typhoons are being built with the Aerodynamical Modification Kit installed, or is that another development like the conformal tanks that no-one signs up for?

Heard nothing so far about AMK being adopted.

Re: Typhoon
Nice video, the latter, nicely counters all the pieces written about the Typhoon Programme continuously dropping things.
The sales-y bit was at the end, when the word "remains" was used instead of "will become".
There is something still missing: " the CFTs, which are scheduled to be mounted on all Tranche 3 Typhoons, would free up under-wing pylons that are frequently used to carry external fuel tanks, as reported earlier by Flightglobal."
- unfortunately, the word "scheduled" here is, again, inaccurate, but at least there is progress towards a decision:

BAE shares climb on hopes of landing Saudi jet deal 'within six months'
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/201 ... hin-six-m/
BAE Systems will soon land a long-awaited order for Typhoon jet fighters, according to Berenberg, a verdict which has sent the defence giant’s shares climbing.
Saudi Arabia will sign a £4bn deal for 48 of the aircraft within the next six months, say analysts in a bold call that is part of a wide-ranging note on the blue-chip company.

Re: Typhoon
I think at this point they'd happily sell them to Argentina to keep orders coming.
I'm most curious about whether that rumoured Bahrain one will pick up though. Might only be for 12 or so, but for such a considered certainty and ongoing assurances from the government over there, you'd think we'd have heard something by now.
East Asia I think is just gonna be a deadzone.

I think the UK has given up trying to sell things to India or further East after having watched the car crashes that our continental friends keep getting themselves into!
Re: Typhoon
Not just our continental friends. Agusta Westland Helicopters have had problems. The Indians want everything to be made in their country, and huge technology transfers included. In most cases they want too much. Then of course their is the side show of bribery and corruption.~UNiOnJaCk~ wrote:I think the UK has given up trying to sell things to India or further East after having watched the car crashes that our continental friends keep getting themselves into!

How will the recent calls from some quarters to ban arm sales to Saudi Arabia affect this possible deal?RetroSicotte wrote:BAE shares climb on hopes of landing Saudi jet deal 'within six months'

More broadly, how is the workbook looking for Warton? I believe they have sufficient orders to keep the production line open until 2019(?) - doesn't leave much time to secure additional orders. Are the only likely/possible additional orders the rumoured Saudi Arabia and Bahrain deals?
Re: Typhoon
Ban the sales of Typhoons to Saudia Arabia, who are operating Typhoons already?
I think the liberalist dimension can be put on the back burner as the treasury needs to claw some cash.

Re: Typhoon
The F-15E is cleared to carry the whole gamut of US munitions; not so the Typhoon. Likewise the Super Hornet; also doubt you could get 28 Typhoons for the same price of 28 F/A-18s.

Re: Typhoon
with production lines about to close the customer has a strong negotiating stance, BAE is rumoured to be reducing costs to keep the revenue coming a little longer.
Typhoon now has access to lots of advanced weaponry too, guided bombs, cruise missiles and possibly the most advanced A2A missile available.

Announcement: RAF Typhoon Aircraft to Visit Japan
Read More: https://www.gov.uk/government/world-loc ... isit-japanDeepening security partnership sees state-of-the-art RAF aircraft join first-ever UK-Japan Joint Fighter Exercise
The Chief of Staff of the Japan Air Self Defence Force, General Yoshiyuki Sugiyama, announced today that the first-ever UK-Japan Fighter Exercise would be hosted at JASDF Misawa Air Base from mid-October to early November.
This exercise was agreed at the January 2016 Foreign and Defence Ministers Dialogue (2+2).
Four Typhoons from RAF II (AC) Squadron will be visiting Japan with Voyager and C-17 aircraft. The JASDF will be participating with F-2 and F-15 fighter aircraft.
This is the first time for the JASDF to host an exercise with a foreign nation other than the United States. The Exercise will be aimed at enhancing interoperability to deepen the UK and Japan’s partnership in security and defence.
