We'll just have to wait...

19 & 111 Sqns would be a nice touch.
1st to operate the Spitfire and Hurricane respectively.

but hey, there you go.
Yeah I imagine 19 squadron could be a good shout, especially with its heritage and the fact its last combat aircraft was the phantom

Doubt 111 Sqn will come back.

The RAF seems to be cutting back to the first 20-odd squadron numbers wherever possible... with the exception of 617 Squadron who get a free pass because they're the Dambusters

My money would be on 19 and 25 Squadrons or 23 Squadron (which was very much a fighter squadron before they operated Sentry).

There's also 21 and 26 Squadrons, which haven't existed at all since the 1970s, but I reckon they'd be more appropriate as an F-35 squadron since they flew bombers and recce aircraft originally.

Don't see 19, not enough current brass with significant affiliation. I'd bet on 43 and 111. Fighter faggots.

I was thinking recently, before and when Typhoon first started entering service, some circles wouldn't stop blathering on about how it was an expensive waste of money because the Cold War was over. How wrong they were.

I can remember Nick Clegg calling for Typhoon to be scrapped in one of the TV debates before the 2010 General Election. What a fool.

The same was said about the Tonka, now look at how desperate they are trying to keep them in service.

Where will the extra Typhoons be based? I am guessing Leeming might be the best option. Given that Lossiemouth is vulnerable to rising sea levels and flooding, why has that been the one Scottish air base to be retained?

According to this map, Rising sea levels would impact Kinloss and Leuchars before Lossiemouth anyway.

Lossiemouths well above sea level inland from some cliffs I think it's pretty safe.

A few centuries ago there was a link to the sea further down from it if u look at really old maps but there's no chance of that being an issue now. If the water was to rise that much then Noah will have to come out of retirement.

North Of Scotland is also rising slowly as the south of England sinks something to do with the loss of the weight of the glaciers from the last ice age.

According to this article, the Typhoon deal with Saudi Arabia may face delays or even cancellation due to a snub from Cameron:

The Saudis spread their purchases, and also buy more than they can operate and maintain, exactly for the reason of using cancellation threats as a political weapon

"At particular risk is a proposed extension to the Al-Salam contract for Typhoon fighters, worth an estimated several billion dollars."

For gods sake.

As usual, people whine, politicians follow the whining, and the whole country ends up losing out.

Saudi's are getting jets sometime soon one way or the other. Doesn't matter what they do. They'll get them from someone. And whichever ones they get won't be used against us.

Might as well be us they give the money to. This is nothing more than appealing to whingers who just want to 'hashtag' #feelgood and almighty.

Time was we understood that business is business and money is money. The Saudi's aren't just going to go "Oh crap! The UK snubbed us! Guess we'll just not buy any jets then!" This achieves precisely squat other than to potentially lose Eurofighter sales and oh, of course, damage UK home jobs.

Who I'm sure the whingers will then whine about losing their jobs and why the Government didn't help it.

And the circle continues.

Socialists love nothing than to feel morally superior to everybody else. They also shout the loudest.
