I am embarking on an experiment in collaborative writing and wanted to extend an invite to UK Defence Forum members
The goal is to take my long piece on FRES/AJAX and broaden it to include the British Army's quest to field a medium weight capability
If you are interested in taking part, drop your hat in the ring (va the comments section) at the post below

I can then create a virtual team of editors and reviewers as I move through what should be, a fairly long and comprehensive document. Of course, all participants will get their name in lights at the beginning of the document.
You guys have lots to add, hope you can join the team

Re: An Invitation to the UK Defence Forum
Hi TD, thanks for posting this here. I'm sure a lot of the people will be very interested in helping!
Technically this would go in another section of the forum, but this is a good cause for a great article (as depressing as it gets in spots!), and the British Army forum does get a lot more 'footfall' to be seen. So we'll leave it here for a little while, then move it over to discussions to let it get 'seen' a little more first.

Re: An Invitation to the UK Defence Forum
TD not the only one interested in revisiting a medium capability:

Both the US Army and USMC are looking to insert such a capability at the Bde level.

Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.

Re: An Invitation to the UK Defence Forum
The term "medium capability" is, as far as I can see it, half the problem in this never-ending nonsense.
The desire is for a light capability, but it gets bumped up to "medium" because that's more politically acceptable or something. Add some new TLAs and we're all good.
It's a light tank. Not a medium. If it's a medium then it's not as mobile as they need. You could call it a SPG which would at least have precedent, but no, it's an MDF.
Heck, the M551 was a light tank. Now it seems to have been an "armored reconnaissance vehicle"?
