Has it been said what's included in this ( phalanx, artisan, LCVP ? )

Personally I doubt any of those three will be included. We could certainly do with the Phalanx off her once they've been upgraded to the latest spec, and the Artisan can be recycled onto POW (unless she's had one fitted already?) or the future frigates.

A cut in LCVPs is planned along with her demise, so Brasil probably gets those.

It's a shame, an almost new ship

Most of the reports seem to indicate she is quite knackered and far from being an almost new ship...

A lack of maintenance, but it is a ship that is 20 years old, in France it is expected that the ship is at the end of life to remove it from service.

It’s hardly a lack of maintenance, she had an expensive refit recently, but remember Ocean isn’t actually built to warship standards and has been worked hard, the Brazilians are unlikely to work her as hard and they’re going to be paying for some repairs before she goes into service with them.

That’s without even commenting on the future manpower requirements if she still was in perfect condition...

A great ship. The real crime in all of this is not the decommissioning, but the lack of a dedicated replacement.

HMS Ocean decommissioned

HMS Ocean was the sixth Royal Navy ship to bear the name Ocean.

1. HMS Ocean (1761), was a 90-gun ship of the line built in 1761.

2. HMS Ocean (1805), was a 98-gun ship of the line launched in 1805, active in the Napoleonic Wars, and later upgraded to a 110-gun first-rate.

3. HMS Ocean (1862) was originally ordered to be built as a Bulwark-class wooden screw line-of battle ship intended to carry 91 guns. However, the order was changed and she was eventually launched in 1863 as a Prince Consort-class ironclad of 24 guns. In the late 1860s she served as flagship to the Commander in Chief of the China Station and after an active life of only six years, was paid off in 1872.

4. HMS Ocean (1898) was a Canopus-class pre-dreadnought battleship launched in 1898 and sunk by a mine in 1915.

5 .HMS Ocean (R68) was an Colossus-class aircraft carrier completed in 1945, served in the Korean War as an aircraft carrier, and the Suez Crisis as a helicopter platform and was scrapped in 1962.

6. HMS Ocean (L12) was a Landing Platform, Helicopter (LPH) launched in 1995 and decommissioned on 27th March 2018. She will shortly go into refit and renovation having been sold to the Brazilian navy.

Many, many more years left in her, and I never got to see her. At least she's not being scrapped yet!

She'll still be in the UK until the refit and renovation is done. Does Devonport have a tour boat like Portsmouth Harbour ?

It did in 1990, last time I was there.

She is dry-docked in 10 Dock, Devonport. And the material state of the intersleek coating applied in 2013 is absolutely awesome. Hard to believe, but apparently it has merely been jet washed, not touched up. It looks new. Amazing.

Yes but it doesn't go close to Devonport so you won't see much

looking at the pictures above maybe we should have given her a 150/200 million pound refit with new engines - gen sets and so on and kept her going for another 25 years and sold one of the Albions
