Not built with it, only fitted as a stop-gap until Illustrious was in service. Should never have lost it's catapults, arrestor gear and 3D Radar and retained it's ability to operate Buccaneers either if you ask me.

Reads to me like another piece of F-35 bashing. Besides the F-35C isn't supposed to be the Fleets primary air defence fighter, and I am not sure but I do not think fighter sweeps are one of the primary day 1 or 2 mission profiles for the platform either. Also I thought the F-35 could "Super Cruise" but may be not. Either way how often do aircraft actually use their after burners and go full tilt past Mach 1. Saying that the limitation appears to be only at very high altitude. As for BVR engagements, things have moved on a lot form Vietnam and so on and has become far more accepted. The issue going forward could well be will you be able to see your opponent before thing get to WVR.

She is.. but i think she'd look far better with a single (longer) island and no ski jump.

She's built for a purpose for which I have no doubt will be excellent but a good looking ship she is not. Sorry just my opinion.

Indeed, we have now gone from catching Cod etc to Marlins!

Seriously though, when I saw her with a Wokka on board it was quite surprising how small they looked on deck, I guess only the fortunate few who have been on her flight deck can realise how big she really is.
