Or giant fans. HMS QE has been recruited by SHIELD.

Apart from a Soviet “fishing” trawler...
A long time ago I admit, but didn't she take out one of those 'trawlers' in an accident?
Ran over a soviet kotlin class destroyer

Not sure if this has been posted already. From the RN FB page.

The first fixed wing fighter jet pilots have embarked in the Royal Navy’s new carrier as she prepares to receive the F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter later this year.

Thanks, wasn't aware that there was a formal IOC soon coming. Nor of the time and motion study with the Marines (one of the lessons learnt and then used in designing HMS Ocean was wider stairs and doorways, in order not to slow down the movement of fully kitted out troops):

"The data gathered during the trials will enable the ship to declare Initial Operating Capability (IOC) as a Landing Platform Helicopter (LPH) later this year, a role held most recently by HMS Ocean.

Royal Marines from 42 Commando have also been on board during this trials period, undergoing Assault training – whereby they are processed through the ship and launched by helicopter to conduct operations ashore."
Ever-lasting truths: Multi-year budgets/ planning by necessity have to address the painful questions; more often than not the Either-Or prevails over Both-And.
If everyone is thinking the same, then someone is not thinking (attributed to Patton)

Just to follow on from the previous two posts. Seems the 2SL was the first to highlight this the other day.

Deliberately obfuscated perhaps?

That, or she really is the new SHIELD carrier :)

Well spotted. I missed that.

If its not a typing error, then yes, bows south!!?? That makes no sense at all, the hangar doors and lifts would be pointing outwards towards Gosport! The lifts need to be along side the jetty for unloading and reloading. However, the QEC's do have mains electrical plug-in points on both sides.

The Invincible Class sometimes used to berth bows south, but they didn't have deck-edge lifts to worry about.

Well, if it's not a typing error then it may be to crane on the CIWS, which was at one time planned for March. Then turn her and crane them on the stbd side so she ends up the right way around as you say. But, just speculation so we'll have to wait and see.

Royal Marines launch 'assault' from HMS Queen Elizabeth

Royal Marines launch 'assault' from HMS Queen Elizabeth

A troop of Royal Marines from 42 Commando in Plymouth has embarked in the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier to prove the process of launching them by helicopter to conduct operations ashore.

Marines from Lima Company and supporting elements from HMS Queen Elizabeth’s Ship’s Company have been called to ‘Assault Stations’ for the very first time, on exercise.

The troops were processed from their accommodation, through the ship, collecting kit, including weapons and ammunition in a carefully orchestrated process, in through the massive hangar and onto the flight deck to simulate being launched ashore by helicopter.

The Royal Navy’s amphibious assault capability has to now been provided by assault ships HMS Bulwark and Albion and the Landing Platform Helicopter (LPH), HMS Ocean.

Whilst HMS Queen Elizabeth does not have the surface assault capability with landing craft of the specialist ships, her four-acre flight deck provides plenty of scope from which to project manpower and equipment ashore using the variety of helicopters she will be able to host.

The ship is currently at sea conducting trials which will determine the operating parameters of several different helicopters, including Merlin Mk2, Mk3 and Mk4, Merlin Crowsnest, Chinook, Apache and Wildcat.

Just have to say, BZ to all the crew of QNLZ and her embarked forces! A hugely successful number of trials and training successfully completed: FOST activities, Rotary Wing flight trials for a range of aircraft, Amphibious Assault trials, RAS with a Tide class tanker & no doubt many more...
