Thanks for the comment Enigmatically. I disagree though the star of both series for me, has been Jerry Kyd.

Got her on ShipAIS. She’s just west of the Isle of Wight.

The additional variable of "wind over the deck" can't be done with a fixed runway.
All of the data will be verified with the additional speed of the ship, adding to the takeoff speeds, meaning lots of testing to get done.

Have to agree, came across as a great leader. Sort of person that you would do something for, because they asked (and didn't need to order you to do it)...

Portsmouth weather: Dry, some light wind, a bit chilly out, some clouds with hazy sunshine. Little chance of rain today.

Been looking at PoW on AIS, she seems to be cruising south of the IoW. Not quickly either and is currently south of Ventnor (10:50).

HMS Prince of Wales arrives in Portsmouth for first time!

Hi all. I got a few photos from the top of Portsmouth's Hotwalls and Round Tower. There were big crowds and a handful of the public braved the chilly November sea for a swim, with one daft man swimming out into the deep water channel, and he was ordered ashore by one of the MOD police fast RHIBs.

Clouds rolled in near to 14:00 blocking out most of the sun, with sunlight and temperature dropping noticibly. PoW then came into view, carrying two Merlins and two Wildcats. Her ships's company - and civilian contractors - were assembled on flightdeck for Procedure Alpha.

PoW passed the Round Tower and entered Portsmouth Harbour at 14:00, then I followed her around into the dockyard. Strangely. PoW didn't sound her horn at the Round Tower which I thought was unusual for such an important new ship. (Apparently she did sound her horn a bit earlier down near Southsea Castle).

PoW looks identical in every way to the QE - except for lack of CIWS. a different pennant number and ships crests. But one criticism, PoW was much rustier than QE was for her first arrival, especially around the forward hangar door and lift area. Her paintwork looked patchy and a bit rushed.

There was also a flyover from two black RN Hawk aircraft. A Wildcat also hovered around, dashing back and forth between the ship and naval base.

Inside the dockyard, I found PoW not at the newly upgraded Victory Jetty, but instead berthed bows-north at Princess Royal Jetty. I assume PoW played it safe used the tried and tested Princess Royal Jetty berth, rather than the untried one at Victory Jetty for her first arrival.

The Portsmouth Harbour Boat Tour was operating almost straight away after PoW docked, with the first boat setting off at 14:30. I didn't go on it today as I've already done it many times before. Another time - preferably when TWO carriers are alongside!

Then I had my traditional appointment with the chip shop....

Rob Hinton (@TugmasterRob) was pilot of SD Tempest, which brought PoW into Pompey. He also did the same for QE back in 2017!

10th December will be the 78th anniversary of the sinking of the previous HMS Prince of Wales.

Let's hope this doesn't turn out to be the one of the shortest commissions in RN history. Election on the 12th.

Just reading latest article on navylookout and it said captain Houston revealed that hmsplws is slightly longer wider and heavier than hmsqe ,now going back sometime when captain Jerry Kyd was talking to media just about set off from the Clyde she said she was 75mts wide not 73mts if anybody can remember or saw it ,and I'm guessing hmsplws is 75mts wide not 73m like hmsqe and the famous 284mts long not 280m as people kept reading 2 differing length thru the years ,does anybody else agree ? But weight difference I've got no clue on that one and how much

Noted that, he also said they broke QNLZ speed record, not sure if that's the official one or the other! "Captain Houston revealed that PWLS is very slightly longer, wider and heavier than QNLZ and also achieved a higher top speed than her sister during the trials. "

I read somewhere that it's because of the upcoming election and Purdah or something, could be a load of BS and they just couldn't be bothered!

Purdah applies to public bodies. It has absolutely no impact on the media, including the BBC.

I wonder if we ever get to find out the true length , width and weight of hmsplws and by how much difference between the 2 of class .it might only be as low as 25 mm in the length or width and that could class as slightly longer and wider .hope it's not too much of a critical secret and you would have to be shot at dawn for this info
