I think it would be cheaper to use someone else design if you want to keep the well dock if they reckon it was going to cost a bomb to put cats on them imagine the work in redesigning the plans for a well dockScimitar54 wrote:Perhaps the Albion class replacement LPH/LHD should be based on the QEC propulsion and hull form (but without the sponsons).

This is a pic of my lads accomodation on PWLS.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
...you can also put a picture to the AB now, this was him on station when PWLS left the basin. Having followed this thread from it's inception, funny how one of mine ended up on the 2nd of class.PhillyJ wrote:This is a pic of my lads accomodation on PWLS. https://twitter.com/profyaffel1/status/ ... 28/photo/1

QE is heading to the Caribbean for warm water trials apparently...a Merlin has landed at Mayport...
Plus, looks like we can expect another shot of the QE with a US CVN in due course....USS Eisenhower this time.

Hope if hmsqe does have another photo op with USS Eisenhower it's from a higher angle than the lower side and frontal shots ,getting a higher up scale of size of a us carrier contrasting with the we class

And for those of us who have been watching this since the start...here was the original dream of a CSG...close enough for government work!

There was another one called the Future of the Royal Navy from an age ago that was from the starboard quarter, very similar but a little closer. Think I remember seeing it on Richard Beedall's Navy Matters website (does anyone know what happened to him?).SKB wrote:Oh good spot with the photo and concept artwork comparison!

Absolutely brilliant to see all these wonderful pictures, am now dying to see some F35 on deck. Also good to see both carriers at sea at same time.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Does anyone know on the first deployment with us marines onboard how many frigates and destroyers will be with HMS qe and I think bi heard the Dutch were sending a frigate on that deployment but could be wrong ,just wondering who else ?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Forgive me if I have missed this discussed elsewhere, but is there any info available w/ the ability of the F35B to act in a AEW role?
If the CBG has CAP, would it be possible to use encrypted comms to the carrier below and kill two stones with one bird?
There'll be a reason I'm sure why crowsnest is being purchased (roughly £269m), but it would relieve pressure on a stretched Merlin fleet if this was at all possible.

Wouldn’t that just pass the pressure on to a stretched F35 fleet though?Roders96 wrote:Forgive me if I have missed this discussed elsewhere, but is there any info available w/ the ability of the F35B to act in a AEW role?

With out any new aircraft there’ll all ways be something stretched. One thing I would look to though is the V-247 as it’s meant to have a AEW variant, being an unmanned system could give multiple benefits as well as it having an 11-15 hour on station time.
One thing I would look to with the F35B is if it could have upgrade to give it EW capability on par or better that the F18 Growlers. It make sense for it to be apolitical across all 3 variants as we’d want it on Bs the USN on Cs and the RAAF on As.
