Unfortunately this would not work, but ....... She has been in the water for about 15 months less than HMS QE was when commencing her Sea Trials, so her bottom should be cleaner (smoother) and a higher speed may therefore be possible.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
QE group will be in Canada for 5 days, then move south to the US.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Hope they get to allow loads of Canadian public tour of the ship and not just the dignitaries and military folks
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Has anyone else noticed on google Earth, on the grassy area outside the Fleet Air Arm museum in Yeovilton, there is a deck layout of a QE carrier?
Definately not 1:1 scale either!

As others have said its a childrens playground.swoop wrote:Has anyone else noticed on google Earth, on the grassy area outside the Fleet Air Arm museum in Yeovilton, there is a deck layout of a QE carrier?

But....RNAS Culdrose does have an exact scale replica of the Invincible Class deck which is used for aircraft handler training. There are 4 F-35 replica's used for this purpose, along with some non-flying Sea Harrier that are used to simulate jet wash hazard in training.
I've never managed to find out if there was ever an intention to expand this facility to make it the same size and shape as a CVF deck to make training more realistic, I suspect there may have been at some point (but nowhere near the scale of China's Concrete carrier in Wuhan) there have been a few parts of the CVF programme that have been cut, regrettably in some cases, like the ramps for re-supply at Portsmouth.

Cheers everyone!
I hadn't seen the playground when visiting FAAM a little while ago. Looks like a good idea by somebody.

Also seen a recent daytime photo, the ramp crest and name have been painted over. Our flight deck lights add a nice bit of ambiance to a cool Rosyth evening. #moodlighting

Well it's all gone dark from my 'contact' which either means he is in his mess where the signal is shocking, they are all being told to keep schtumm, or he never made it back from Edinburgh yesterday after his last run ashore for a while!
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I was told earlier that not today as 'weathers crap'.

06:05 - High tide at Rosyth right now, but no tug activity on AIS. And sunrise isn't until 06:52 anyway. The evening high tide is at 19:02, but sunset is 19:21...
Friday (20th) morning has a high tide at 07:19 with sunrise at 06:55.
