The twitter movie of the Merlins landing and the crew walking past QE's island is so reminiscent of the CGI movies made way back when before a sheet of steel was cut. Quite amazing.

Seem's like 2 escort frigates?
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Cant quiet zoom in close enough on this PC but does it look like Tiderace has already been fitted with 2 x 30mm while QE has still to get hers?

^It is an old photo, QE is missing her badge. And the sun is in the wrong position for that background coastline to be the south coast of England.
That photo was taken 8th August 2017 on Exercise Saxon Warrior when QE and the USS George H.W. Bush met in the North Sea. That is the east coast of Scotland in the background, with a late afternoon sun to the south-west. The two T23's shown here are HMS Westminster (forward) and HMS Iron Duke (behind).

Even the cloud formations match.

Scheduled first landing is still on for last week in September so in just over a month we’ll see another CGI image fulfilled..

RFA Tiderace (A137) is now off Plymouth.

No idea where QE is. But I know where she isn't, no new QE news stories coming from Penzance. Or Portsmouth, unsurprisingly.

The UK's biggest warship is starting flight trials in the United States - but what is it like on board HMS Queen Elizabeth? And what preparations are required for a vessel of such a size to go to sea? We went on deck to find out before the carrier left Portsmouth.
So, the first F-35B landing will be a vertical one, and on No.3 spot (the one nearest to FLYCO).

I would have chosen the spot with least ship movement. Maybe that's this one?

Found an image showing the numbered landing spots. There seem to be at least 6 marked spots and they also coincide with these horizontal white lines painted across the flight deck from port to starboard, and are presumably highlighted for vertical landing guidance, also doubling as parking spots.

Not sure what the broken/hashed line between spots 3 and 4 is for, maybe its the exact centre of mass of the ship? Or it could be something to do with SRVL landings? Anyone know for certain?

Click for full screen:

No.3 spot does seem to be both in the centre (where ship pitching would be less compared to the bow and stern at each end) and also lines up with FLYCO perfectly.

Image

The three digit numbers are length of runway remaining (in feet) until the end of the ramp.

I'm wondering if its the (standard) start line for F-35 op's
