That's always been the plan hasn't it? UK pilots have done any UK specific work (as well as other test duties) and any of the test pilots can (and do) use what ever aircraft is available on that day.SDL wrote:UK pilots though?

With regards to QE testing yes, I was also referring to everyday testing where any plane goes.

I delivered our old small piano to a friend down the bottom of the road, downhill all the way mind. Initially it seemed a good idea to wheel it on the pavement but until you've tried it you do not realise how uneven the many driveway dropped kerbs are. We decided it was smoother to take it on the road downhill, tempted to both sit on the top and let it roll ala Harold Llloyd or Laurel and Hardy, but thankfully decided against this means of delivery! We did get some strange looks though from the neighbours, stranger than normal that is.abc123 wrote:Interesting, but can't compete with the story I heard in one monastery where they had delivered a piano in 19th Century, with 8 people carryng it on their backs and nineth with wine refueling them along the way ( about 1 km uphill ).

Very interesting interview with CO of Commando Helicopter Force. He talks about their deployment on QE this autumn, Joint Personnel Recovery, air to air refuelling, future enhancements to Merlin and Wildcat...

I like the idea of army wildcat may be given a radar and air to surface weapons, plus datalinks.Little J wrote:Beat me to it, was going to post that...

A list of nice wishes, I'm afraid...
Fortune favors brave sir, said Carrot cheerfully.
What's her position about heavily armed, well prepared and overmanned armies?
Oh, noone's ever heard of Fortune favoring them, sir.
According to General Tacticus, it's because they favor themselves…

Yeah, I'm wondering if we'll just beg the Yanks to refuel us (big) IF we ever need it.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
He is talking about FAA Wildcats, not Army. 847 NAS operate the AH1 variant, so ideally he wants them to convert to HMA2.cyrilranch wrote:I like the idea of army wildcat may be given a radar and air to surface weapons, plus datalinks.

Arriving this Saturday morning for a holdiay, seems just in time to see her in port. Lucky us...maybe even seeing her sailing for the US.

Are not the Wildcats used by the RM pooled from lthe army AH1 helicopters, as FAA Wildcats are HMA2 version s with seaspey radar already fitted.benny14 wrote:He is talking about FAA Wildcats, not Army. 847 NAS operate the AH1 variant, so ideally he wants them to convert to HMA2.cyrilranch wrote:I like the idea of army wildcat may be given a radar and air to surface weapons, plus datalinks.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Likely pooled, 847 NAS has ~6 AH1s. If they want radar and weapons, easiest way is conversion to HMA2, it gives you both, you then just need to introduce Brimstone.cyrilranch wrote: Are not the Wildcats used by the RM pooled from the army AH1 helicopters, as FAA Wildcats are HMA2 version s with seaspey radar already fitted.
