Would need to travel to much warmer climes to test those issues!bobp wrote:Considering that this is her maiden voyage she is doing well. Bearing in mind the propulsion problems of the T45 I assume they will test her thoroughly before handing her over to the Navy. Any pictures of the wardroom carpet yet?

Heard about issues with the shafts glad to see she's performing.

Has Sharkey Ward said anything recently? According to him it was hogging....amongst other things...Repulse wrote:Heard about issues with the shafts glad to see she's performing.

A possible high speed run?SKB wrote:20:32 - QE's AIS signal lost. Was heading north at 13.1 kts, east of Inverbervie.
21:42 - AIS signal restored. Heading north at 9.6 kts,
The AIS will certainly be turned off when the higher speeds will get tested.
Also, that photo taken on the bridge... Is that wood being used on the consoles? I'm wondering how much is aboard (decorative functions presumably).
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
QE's AIS is back on, she's nearing the Aberdeen coast having done some loops/u-turns.

As the ship has already done a 26knot+ run they don't seem too interested in hiding the speed, that's already faster then delcared max design speed. and if hogging or props wer ecausing troubles I doubt they would be gunning her this soon.
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'll bet when they were doing 26+knots there were a few grins on board!

The Assembly Director once claimed 32 knots in a youtube interview. Been looking for that video for a long time again to be able to link.
So, we'll have to see.

I'm amazed they didn't turn off the transponder for the 26knot run I would expect that it would certainly go quiet for any faster then that, if she is capable of exceeding that of course.inch wrote:not trying for a 3o-32 kts today ? she might be able who knows or whos going to tell .well done everybody anyway your doing us proud
I would like to know what effect the Neptune stabilisers are having.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'm no naval architect but the calculations to work out a ships max speed based on power and wetted area are fairly basic. There may be a small margin of error involved but realistically those who want to know will have already worked out her max speed to within a knot or 2. It's pretty straight forward to work out how fast a Nimitz Class can theoretically go for example. Unfortunately for Tom Clancy fans it's not over 40 knots...more like 32 max. In fact Forrestal Class were the fastest ever US CV's. Only Enterprise came close.WhiteWhale wrote:I'm amazed they didn't turn off the transponder for the 26knot run I would expect that it would certainly go quiet for any faster then that, if she is capable of exceeding that of course.
The French requirement for PA2 was for it to reach 29 knots at least...they weren't planning on making changes to propulsion.

T23 HMS Iron Duke left Leith (Edinburgh) at 20:00 BST. Has just passed the Isle of May, speed 14 kts. Projected path eastwards will cross QE's path.

Probably just rust stains left over from all the containers, materials, debris and marquee tents that were all over the deck during 3 years of fitting out.bobp wrote:There is an awful lot of brownish patches on her deck that appear to be rust.

That was my initial thought too but did she have much of that stuff on deck after it was painted?SKB wrote:Probably just rust stains left over from all the containers, materials, debris and marquee tents that were all over the deck during fitting out.bobp wrote:There is an awful lot of brownish patches on her deck that appear to be rust.

I'd be expecting speeds in the 30+ range since she is currently very lightly loaded.WhiteWhale wrote:As the ship has already done a 26knot+ run they don't seem too interested in hiding the speed, that's already faster then delcared max design speed.
Has anyone seen a sign on the transom "Running in, please pass"?
