Zero, depending on weather conditions. She has quite a bit of overhead for launching fully loaded 35s in various conditions. On a coolish day like today there shouldn't be any issues.hovematlot wrote:Fastest I have seen yet. Guess they are trying different propulsion combos. What speed does she need to achieve for Lighting II launch?SKB wrote:QE currently doing 16.6 knots
Sutherland's track looks like a demented housefly.

QE's position not sent for over an hour now. AIS switched off?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Happened late this afternoon AU time. I don't think it's switched off.SKB wrote:QE's position not sent for over an hour now. AIS switched off?

May be just stationary. Stopped for lunch?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
She's "back". Stealth Mode test successful.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I was hoping that there would be some photos of her at sea with HMS Sutherland, perhaps taken from Sutherlands embarked Helo. What was the weather up there today?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Only this so far, also seen on the previous page. Is that the Isle Of May on the horizon?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Don't think the weather is that great TBH... We'll get some more shots in a few days when the weather clears up
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
17:32 - Looks like QE's heading in, she's just re-entered the Forth, doing around 15 knots (17mph or 27 kph). Kirkcaldy anchoring maybe?

18:00 - HMS Sutherland hanging waaaay back, only just re-entering the Forth now, but doing 20 knots, catching up fast.
18:20 - Both ships slowing, leaving deep water channel and possibly heading for Kirkcaldy Bay for anchoring.
18:35 - Rosyth seems to have sent one of its tugs, the Forth Fighter (which was involved in QE's departure yesterday) to anchorage point K7. QE is heading in that direction. The water is no deeper than 22m between them.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
There was a measured mile on the north of forth between Kickcaldy and Levan, That's if they still do manual bearings times past the post and work the speed in knots. Then that's paper chart work.. (navy probably still teach it to watch staff because it will work when all else fails).SKB wrote:Looks like QE's heading in, she's just re-entered the Forth, doing around 15 knots (17mph or 27 kph). 18:43 - Looks like QE is going to meet tug Forth Fighter, just off Kirkcaldy.
18:46 - Another of yesterdays tugs, the Forth Constructor is heading east from Rosyth to the area.
18:46 - QE slowing to 8 knots. Heading directly for Forth Fighter
18:55 - Forth Fighter is showing its destination as Anchor Berth K8, which is immediately between it (in K7) and the QE. K7 is currently occupied by a liquid petroleum gas tanker called Kappagas.

19:00 - QE has entered Anchor Berth K8 off Kirkcaldy at 2 knots. Only 19m deep at its shallowest. Forth Constructor and Forth Fighter tugs are now closing in.
19:08 - QE at 0.3 knots, presumably with anchor dropped.
19:20 - HMS Sutherland heading for QE's anchorage area.
19:27 - A pilot vessel, the Forth Panther has met the QE.
19:34 - Forth Panther returning to Rosyth
19:55 - Both tugs departing, heading to Burntisland.
20:00 - HMS Sutherland swoops past QE...
20:20 - HMS Sutherland is doing her 'demented housefly' thing again...
20:30 - 112,000 ton cruise ship CARIBBEAN PRINCESS takes a peek at the QE, no doubt carrying Russian spies disguised as elderly American tourists...

While anchored off Kirkcaldy on the evening of the 27th, HMS Queen Elizabeth and Caribbean Princess had a little exchange with their horns!
QE's horn is the deeper sounding.

That's her swinging round the pick in Kirkcaldy.
Even on a dreich night she is massive and wonderful to look at.
Sutherland off her port quarter on her way now towards isle of May.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
What's the bet that the crew of Sutherland's Wildcat all spoke about jumping the gun and stealing the first landing from 820?
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I would think that the first landing on the QE is something that had been meticulously planned months in advance... can't see the brass being happy if the Sunderland Wildcat sneaks it early....
Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
How much fuel would she have left with considering they wanted her light to leave the basin? Has she stopped to bunker or is it adjustment time?
